According to, “the planning function of management controls all the planning that allows the organization to run smoothly. Planning involves defining a goal and determining the most effective course of action needed to reach that goal.”

The overall structure of the company is dictated by the organization and the the leadership behind it. The organizational structure is what helps determine how the company actually functions.

In his 1989 book “On Becoming a Leader,” Warren Bennis composed a list of the differences between management and leadership. He says, “The manager administers; the leader innovates. The manager is a copy; the leader is an original. The manager maintains; the leader develops. The manager focuses on systems and structure; the leader focuses on people. The manager relies on control; the leader inspires trust. The manager has a short-range view; the leader has a long-range perspective. The manager asks how and when; the leader asks what and why. The manager has his or her eye always on the bottom line; the leader’s eye is on the horizon. The manager imitates; the leader originates. The manager accepts the status quo; the leader challenges it. The manager is the classic good soldier; the leader is his or her own person. The manager does things right; the leader does the right thing.” The biggest thing that needs to be taken away from this is that managing and leadership work in conjunction with each other, but they are two totally different things.

According to small, “The controlling function of management is useful for ensuring all other functions of the organization are in place and are operating successfully.”

Intro to Networking: Case Study Part 4

...Case Study Part 4 Dear Mr. Sheehan, I have compiled information regarding converting our peer-to-peer network to a client server network. I have also included information on both Linux and Microsoft versions of servers. My recommendations are included at the conclusion of this report. There are many reasons as to why we should upgrade our current infrastructure to a client server network. The company has grown to a point where we have physically out grown our current peer-to-peer network. Currently, our corporate office does not have immediate and live access to the Chicago and New York offices. This poses a lack of effectiveness and efficiency that a server network will solve. First let’s dive into what a client server is. A client server is a type of computing in which one powerful workstation (the server) serves the requests of other computers (the subordinates or client machines). A server is the powerful computer on the network and provides services to the other systems. Servers usually have a database integrated in them, large amounts of memory, advanced configuration, make the management of a network centralized and easy to work with and processes the requests of the client machines. Certainly, there are a multitude of options however; I will focus on the main differences between Linux and Microsoft.   Microsoft continues to dominate the software as well as the server market. Microsoft holds an approximate 49% stake in this market. They are one of the......

Managing Change Course Project Part 1

...PART II: – THE CHANGE ANALYSIS – IMAGES OF CHANGE This part of the project is presenting to readers an analysis of the images of change found in the two companies – Royal Philips Electrical and BMW. A review of the said companies is made and comparison based on their change stories. The image of change possessed by any manager is determined by how best he/she is able to plan, direct and control the organization's resources (human, finances, materials/equipment and time) in the best possible way. Rodger Dean Duncan (2013), maintained that managers of change should be gardeners as he presented it in a sub-heading “ Be a Gardener, Go for Growth; A first tendency of many business people is to fix things. But successful leaders invest energy in growing rather than fixing. They know the organization is a living organism with many interrelated elements capable of extinction or growth. Successful leaders are gardeners, they create a nurturing environment and they cultivate with care.'' The above quotation has given us a clear picture of how managers of change should look like and what they need to do in order to keep the organizations in continuous growth. Therefore, it is necessary to present a critical analysis of change images in organizations which may apply to any situation of management and not limited to any specific organization. 2.1 Review of the changes in each of the case study organizations: 2.1.1 Royal Philips Electronics......

Descart Part 4

...perhaps ten years earlier. He claims he is not intending to reveal the "method" but only to "reveal how I have tried to direct my own [mind]." Much of the method is applied in the Meditations. But, here it is more historically positioned. It is important to remember that this text contains elements that were highly controversial at the time-views which even contributed to Galileo's house arrest under the Inquisition in 1633. Commentary In Part One, Descartes humbly begins by asserting that reason is "naturally equal among all men." He follows Aristotle by asserting that the differences, which make some seem much brighter than others, is a matter of degree, which is not essential to being human. He recounts his formal education from one of the finer schools in Europe, and indicates how he finds each element wanting: Languages, Fables, Books, Oratory, Poetry, Math, Morals, Jurisprudence and science. His disillusionment with formal education led him to speculate that the average man on the street may know more, since his life was tied to it. Part Two takes you further into his intellectual development. He observes how specialization, wherein many people work separately, does not always yield a higher quality product. In contrast, when a single person does the work, the product is often better. But, one need not demolish a whole city to rebuild anew. Descartes' project is much smaller. Perhaps as a bow to his fears about the Church and the Inquisition, Descartes claims he is......

...Project part 4 IS3445 Common weaknesses and attacks associated with e-commerce and social networking applications Security of transactions is critical in building the confidence of customers in a specified e-commerce site. This security depends heavily on an organization's ability to ensure authenticity, availability, privacy, integrity and disruption of unwanted intrusions. Malicious program known as sniffer programs often disrupt the privacy transactions especially when one uses unauthorized networks. They are found at network connection end points. When transactions are carried out, confidentiality is necessary thus it requires removing of any data showing transaction paths. This has become a common problem in the e-commerce sites. Another common problem for e-commerce site is a Trojan horse. There are many types of models to choose from. There are some with many steps to go through, as well as some with only a few steps. Whatever model that is chosen to incorporate the change, depends on the change to be made and the size of the organization that is involved in the change. While wanting to make big changes in the Boeing Corporation, Team A has decided to utilize Kotter’s Eight Step Change Management Model. Kotter’s model is one of the best known change management models and has been around since the mid 1990’s. It was first published in the Harvard Business Review and has since been included in two books, “Leading Change” and “The Heart of Change” (Palmer, Dunford & Akin, 2005).
