P&G's Logistics Revolution: Co-creating Value
Confronting the challenges of rising supplier costs, growing retailer prowess, intensifying competition, fickle consumer tastes and preferences in the consumer packaged goods industry, P&G gained a distinctive competitive edge through a strengthened focus on supply network efficiencies. By making consumer the center of all its core operations, P&G initiated Customer Driven Supply Network (CDSN) that starts from customer choice at the store shelf and works backwards towards product manufacture; a paradigm shift from forecast-based supply chain to the one based on realtime demand. P&G's relationship with Wal-Mart exemplifies the success of CDSN but given the complexities of P&G's size and scale, analysts remain skeptical about the success of P&G–Wal-Mart's pilot study with other retailers.Analysts are also dubious of the scope for success in exporting the model to developing markets wherein the industry dynamics are extremely contradictory. Consumer Packaged Goods Industry – The Changing Dynamics | |
During the early 20th century, consumer packaged goods evolved to be a highly competitive industry with a large number of players vying for a greater market share . Manufacturers, with their market prowess, focused extensively on reinforcing their strong brands and improving productivity. They established their dominance either by restructuring their brand portfolios throughmergers and acquisitions or focusing on core brands. Though consolidation gave manufacturers significant global presence, focus on core brands made it difficult for retailers to avail price cuts. They even limited the quantity of high-demand products supplied/allotted to the retail stores, insisted on selling products in all sizes and packages and forced retailers to involve in promotional activities. For instance, P&G…...

...The Qualitative Report Volume 14 Number 1 March 2009 61-80 Lived Experiences of Adult Children Who Have a Parent Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease Amy Blanchard, Jennifer Hodgson, Angela Lamson, and David Dosser East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina Little is known about the experience among adult children who have a parent with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). The purpose of this study was to explore, appreciate, and describe their experiences using a phenomenological methodology. Narratives were collected from seven participants who have a parent diagnosed with PD and analyzed according to Colaizzi’s (1978) phenomenological data analysis method. Seven thematic clusters were identified and an exhaustive description is presented to summarize the essence of their lived experience. The study indicates a strong sense of essential positivism from the participants’ stories, and overall, it seems PD has brought some degree of biological, psychological, socially, and/or spiritual meaning to their lives that they may not have otherwise noticed or experienced. Key Words: Parkinson’s Disease, Phenomenology, Biopsychosocial-spiritual, Adult, Children and Illness Introduction “The bond between mother and child is so deeply rooted in our emotions that we fear to discuss openly anything that threatens the bond” – Glenna Atwood (1991) Establishing links between chronic illnesses and family impact are not novel (e.g., Cooke,......

Lean and Agile Concepts: the Pd Aquarium Case Study.

...Lean and Agile Concepts: The PD Aquarium Case Study. Analyze the methodology used to understand the processes at the firm The methodology used in identifying the workflow at PD Aquarium [PDA] is process mapping. The authors have successfully provided a pictorial view of the process through flow charts and the activity maps Process Mapping helps in analysis of process flow, by differentiating how a process is and how it should be. What functions are performed, how they are performed and how they should be performed. It depicts the activities, information flow and interconnections in a process. Their effectiveness in identifying problems, According to process mapping and analysis (2004), it offers a simple, yet powerful method of looking beyond functional activities and rediscovering your core, key and supporting processes. one of the key aspects of mapping is flow charts which gives a picturesque image of the entire process thus aiding in identify the problems in the task and modifying the process therein. A flow chart looks at a task from every angle. For instance Graham’s Process mapping talks about analyising the “What” documents are used for the process, “where” is the task performed, “who” is carrying out the task, “when and where” is the maximum process time spent, “who” are the decision makers, “where” do the controls lie, and last and most importantly the “where are the “Value Additions” In case of PDA there are 3 problems that have been identified; 1.......

Pd - Physiological Responses

...A year 11 student is participating in the beep test and is currently at level 8, discuss the immediate physiological responses that she is experiencing. HIGHLIGHT SYLLABUS POINTS The five immediate physiological responses to exercise are heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, ventilation and lactate levels. These five physiological responses change during different levels of exercise and are different pre and during exercise. The responses vary for different levels of fitness and capability. In this situation, for a year 11 student participating in the beep test currently at level 8, this person is under the average of 9 and will need to train to improve her level. This person will take part in aerobic training and this is where the physiological responses are undertaken. Also the FITT principal comes into account when relating to physiological responses. Heart rate is the amount of times the heart beats per minute. There are three different types of heart rate, which include; resting heart rate. This is your heart rate when we are completely at rest. Working heart rate is when our heart rate is increasing with exercise and will increase according to the exercise. And steady state is when a fit person’s heart rate levels off during lengthened exercise. When our heart rate increases, the increase of the volume of blood is pumped with each contraction. This occurs because our muscles need more oxygen to contract so more blood needs to travel to the muscles. For......

Evaluating the Methodology Used to Understand Process at Pd Aquarium & Their Effectiveness

...Brief Background & Definition of Lean: Due to the economic depression in the late 90’s in Thailand, lots of business methodologies changed. PD Aquarium as a manufacturer was not unaffected. It positioned itself to meet customer needs of both ‘made to order’ and ordinary products applying the lean approach as a cost reduction means in avoiding excess production being stored as inventory in a bid to cut down on cost. Lean manufacturing or lean production is basically a production practice that targets the identification and elimination of waste. Lean manufacturing changed the world as innovated by Toyota that is against mass production system (Taj Shahram, 2008).Taj believes lean means manufacturing without waste; here waste includes over production, waste in waiting time, transportation waste, inventory waste, processing waste, waste of motion and waste from production defects. Analyzing Methodology And Effectiveness In Identifying Problems At PD Aquarium: (1) Standard production cycle is five working days. No orders are taken over the weekend and any order received any day outside Monday automatically gets delivered the following Fridays as orders are only shipped for delivery on Fridays. On receipt of these orders from retailers, the administration clerk would check inventory and raw materials only after orders are received. Operating at lower cost to yield greater profits however customers would not be satisfied as serving the customer becomes vital means of......

San Marcos Pd

...SAN MARCOS POLICE DEPARTMENT The San Marcos Police Department is the primary general service law enforcement agency of San Marcos, Texas. The department is currently comprised of 95 sworn officers and 35 full time administrative staff members. On the law enforcement front, it is here at the local level that the major advances against the problems of crime and order maintenance goes on. This paper will serve to explain several key administrative concepts related to the operations of the San Marcos Police Department. In particular, this paper will examine the organizational structure within the department, in addition to, motivation and leadership components. STRUCTURE The accepted patterns of police organizations follow closely those to be found in military service (Leonard, 1969). This appears to be a very logical development since a police organization is semi-military in character. Police departments tend to be organized with rank structures, utilize the usage of uniforms and incorporate many of the various artillery of the armed forces, designed in large measure to set cops apart from civilians and signal obvious membership in an organization that exerts the immediate force of the government (Crowper, 2000). Furthermore, within an organizational dimension, police departments fall under the classification of mechanistic organizations (Stojkovic, Kalinch & Klofas, 2008). This type of organization is commonly regarded by its traditional bureaucratic foundation,......
