Swag

...Every night when I go to sleep I always have nightmares of the incident that occurred to my younger brother Bobo. I always wished it was me instead of him. It was a scorching hot day in Blafra where a war is currently happening near our village. Bobo and I decided to go outside and play tag with the other children in the small village we live in. As we began to play I counted down from ten and started to Bobo since he was the first one I spotted. As I was chasing him to the end of the village he stepped on a landmine that was most likely planted by the enemy to infiltrate our village and take captive of us. The mine packed a punch. The impact caused his legs to be totally obliterated. I stood there in dismay, reminiscing all the good times we had together. Like that one time we went to go hunt for antelopes, it was funniest moments we had together catching food for our family while conversing about life. I watched him drown in blood, as I suddenly felt a sharp pain because of pieces of shrapnel that hit me since I was behind Bobo; the boy was fast as the wind. The only thing left that I have to remember was his bracelet. I wish I was me instead of Bobo. Since that day this tragic happened I have been blaming myself for being unconcerned of where we were playing. Additionally I am his older brother so he is my responsibility to keep him from danger. This left a scar on me now that I have two sons myself I taught them my mistakes so that it will not happen to them. Now that......

Unfair Incarceration: Minorities’ Plight in the U.S. Judicial System

...comes to minorities in this country. Minorities are over represented in the U.S. Penal System given their relative population density. According to the NAACP, (2013) there are as of 2008 some 2.3 million people in the United States in correctional custody. Of that number they cite that 1 million of those are African Americans. If you where to add in the incarcerated Hispanic population it would tally some 58% of the total. The disparity is that African Americans only represent approximately 13% of the total population and Hispanics roughly 16%. (Mauer & King, 2007 p 2) Whites account for about 70% of the total population in the U.S. and 35 % of inmates, which is significantly less of the incarcerated population per capita. (Bobo & Thompson, 2006 p. 451) Mauer & King, (2007 p. 2) cite several statistics that report African Americans are incarcerated at a rate of nearly six times that of Whites and Hispanics are nearly double the White rate. This phenomenon is not evenly distributed across the country. The highest rates are disproportionality distributed to the North East and Midwest of the United States, with the highest rate belonging to Iowa at 13.6 to 1. (Mauer & King, 2007 p.3) The only commonality across the data is that the African Americans incarcerated are in 86% of the cases male, 83% are young with a median age of 27, and the median sentence served is 20 months. (Abrams, Bertrand, & Mullainathan, 2010) The interesting sociologic......

Bobos’ in Paradise

...What is the purpose of life? To earn inexhaustible money and a high social status in a business cocktail gathering or to have an unrestrained life which one can do anything according to one’s will? BOBOS’ in Paradise is written by David Brooks, who is a political and cultural commentator and working for New York Times. He is also the editor and commentator of different news and magazines. The key term of the title of this book – BOBO is Brook’s famous coinage, which uses to describe the new class that arouse after the 1990s. What is BOBO? It is the combination of bourgeois, those defend the tradition morality of the middle class and advocate capitalism, and bohemian, those flout conventions according to their wills and promote counterculture. These two cultures are usually regarded as two entirely opposite view against each other. This book first introduces the behavior of the bourgeois and Bohemian in their history, then analysis the characteristic and behavior of the new class - BOBO’s. The content of the book is mainly divided into six parts, the consumption, business life, intellectual life, pleasure, spiritual life and politics. The first part of the book mentions about the consumption behavior of BOBOs. It changed from the culture of consumerism of bourgeois in the 1950s, to 1960s which promoted the concept of haphazard and natural, one of the extreme cases was that “going up among the peers’ estimation by going down in lifestyle” in order to suit the image......

Describe and Discuss the Social Learning Theory

...intention. This may be something simple such as a mother washing the dishes and her daughter watching this. The daughter has therefore learnt the behaviour and the mother is seen as the ‘model’. Research evidence for this was done by a psychologist called Bandura in 1961. he involved children and adults in his experiment. He experimented how the behaviour of adults can influence that of a child. He showed this by putting children, one at a time, into a room with an adult, this adult then acted aggressively towards a bobo doll. He then put a group of children, one by one, into a room with an adult that acted lovingly towards the bobo doll. Later the children were all asked to play in the room, one at a time, the children that had witnessed the aggression towards the bobo doll imitated this behaviour and were aggressive with the toys and shouted. Whereas the children who had witnessed the loving adult imitated this behaviour and were kind and caring towards the bobo doll. The social learning theory is good as it uses experiments and non-experimented methods. Bandura controlled the variables, such as the toys, the length of time that the children spent with the adults. This controlled experiment allows us to see that the behaviour which was modelled was imitated by each child. However, it does not focus on the biological factors, some children may have gentic pre-disposition to aggressive behaviour which could be a major factor in whether or not they show aggression......

...Activity-Based costing method When designing the ABC method it is necessary to determine which activities we need to include in the cost of the production. The number of the activities that we are going to include needs to be optimal so the ABC method won’t be that much complicated and it would be easier to undestand. When identifing the activities it is important to chose all relative activities that are the main generators of the cost. Should Professional Sports People (Such as Afl Footballers, National Cricketers) Be Role Models?

...a footballer acts out in an aggressive manner young boys are more likely to display this negative behavior, which is confirmed by Bandura’s bobo doll experiment in 1961. Banduras experiment highlighted that a child’s actions are dependent on the way the model acts, and in most cases they will replicate the modeled behavior without any reinforcement (Piotrowski, 2010). To test his hypothesis, Bandura used a life-size clown doll, also known as the “bobo” doll to stimulate certain behaviors among the children. Adult models were instructed by Bandura to act violently around the bobo doll specifically by hitting it with a hammer or kicking it. To try and stimulate this behavior among children, Bandura then showed a video of the model acting violently towards the doll then allowed the children to play with it. Those children who had observed the adult hitting or kicking the bobo doll acted similarly and exactly imitated their behavior (Parish, 2009). Bandura’s experiment can be used to explain the imitated behavior of young children from sportsmen as they vicariously learn to act in the exact same way as their role models. Whether these sportsmen are taking drugs or acting violently, children will assume that it is appropriate to behave in that way and are more likely to emulate their behavior creating a realistic representation of Banduras bobo doll experiment. Observational Learning is made up of four components which include; attention, retention, reproduction and motivation......

Summary of Transmission of Aggression A.Bandura

...random experimental groups and one control group that was determined with the help of the staff ratings of the children’s current aggressive behavior to help limit extraneous variables. Some of the groups had same-sex models while the others had models of the opposite sex and the control group had no involvement with the models at all. The control group was only tested in the experimental rooms. The subjects were brought into a room and told to play with familiar toys at a table in the corner while the model was brought in to the opposite corner of the room to play with toys such as a tinker toy set, a mallet and a five foot inflatable Bobo doll. The aggressive models would start out playing with the tinker toy set but the aggressively hit, kick and use verbal aggression towards the doll. The non-aggressive models would ignore the Bobo doll and only play with the tinker toy set. While the subject is playing in his or her corner, they are observing such behavior from the models. After ten minutes, the experimenter would then take the subject to another (experimental) room in a different building. This room was used to arouse aggression by telling the subject to play with the toys in the room and then about two minutes later, the subjects were told that those toys were reserved for other children to play with. The subjects were then told to go into the next (experimental) room to play with the toys in there. The position of the toys in this room were fixed and there......
