Just a Dream Carrie Underwood

...11, 2011, is upon us, I felt it would be fitting to discuss a song dedicated to the United States military. The song I chose is by Carrie Underwood, the title is Just a Dream. This song is not only moving for the United States military and their families; I feel that anyone can relate to these lyrics. I think this way because that dreadful day affected all of us as a nation. I love this song because the way she organized the lyrics is incredible; she begins the song with a mood and as the song progresses, the mood takes a dramatic turn. The song begins by starting with a cheerful and happy mood, and when the stage is set the mood changes to dark and depressing. The second line of the song is “all dressed in white, going to the church that night”. By these few words alone, one can clearly tell that she seems to be awaiting the walk down the aisle for her wedding. She explains that she is getting ready for her wedding, and she is marrying her fiancé that is in the United States military. Just a few lines later, it is revealed that she is not going to her wedding; she is going to her fiancé’s funeral. Her fiancé had been killed in combat, and she just can’t believe he is gone. This is where the title “Just a Dream” comes from, she wanted to be his forever and now that is now possible. Even more so than the song itself, the music video for Carrie Underwood’s “Just a Dream” is even more moving. After a brief intro, there is a bride that is actually standing at the end of the......

Attitudes and Influencing Attitudes

...behavior Chapter 11 attitudes and influencing attitudes Attitude is an enduring organization of motivational, emotional, perceptual, and cognitive process with respect to some aspect of our environment. By changing the attitude component, marketers often attempt to influence the consumer behavior in a different significant way. Though it may seem positive, in most cases the marketers are changing the behavior in order to sell their products only. They do so by first changing the consumers’ beliefs. After that they try to shift the importance, as well as add additional beliefs and change the ideal. Olay, a skin care product company, portrays a new facial cleanser in an advertisement. The advertisement portrays the famous singer Carrie Underwood with a reinforcing statement that states, “ it takes a team to make me glam, but just one cleanser to keep my skin clean and fresh.” This may change a consumer’s belief by some sort of expected evidence Underwood’s clear and clean skin. This is also an easier task, since the marketers are targeting young adults reading fashion magazines, and desperate to contain or maintain a certain look. The attitude of the consumers is emerged by the portrayal of the Olay cleanser as the solution to everything, almost as if it works like magic, which may be also adding specific beliefs. The worst part about these advertisements is that these new beliefs that are added or changed may not always be true. In this case, the cleaning product......

Controversy in Country Music

...360 (Final Draft) The genre of country music has brought about many controversial issues, like in the example of Carrie Underwood’s catchy tune, cheating and retribution. The bluntness of this enriched genre of music, based on our patriotic roots as Americans, gives off a distasteful and bitter taste to those who don’t see themselves above country- loving or uneducated ‘hicks.’ Critics of country music in the article ‘Acting Naturally: Cultural Distinction and Critiques of Pure Country’ cannot comprehend what is portrayed in this type of music, something of which us ‘hicks’ like to refer to as the ‘simple life’. Country music may be controversial, but it has been able to overcome the stereotypes so that now even those who aren’t living the ‘country life’ can enjoy its passion- filled quality. Country music has always been a very popular form of expression that has been loved by people since its’ beginning in the stereotyped, southern sound form. Also considered to own the fastest growing audience in America, country music has certainly earned its place being the favorite form of music in many people’s hearts. However, just because we as we choose to listen to this music, does not mean “we're all store-bought cowboys and armchair hillbillies.” In fact, classifying a person according to the music they decide to listen to does little to describe the actual person. These people are found in all different types of music; limiting these trend lovers to just country music......

How Music Cinnects

...could talk about the newest song they wrote. Some of would sing the song and pretend we were the group. This was the fun time before class it kind of helped us through the day. New Kids on the Block: You Got the Right Stuff I think that at this point in my life I can say that there are so many songs that give me comfort. However I think that the one that gives me the most comfort nowadays is Jesus Take the Wheel by Carrie Underwood. If you have ever heard this song it’s about how people can lose faith when bad things happen and how praying helps. This song helps me to realize that every time I hear my daughter sing it to me. It also helps when I hear the artist sing it to, but somehow hearing my 15 year old daughter sing it I feel so much better like the world is in God’s hands and I have nothing to worry about. My life is very stressful between trying to find a job helping my oldest daughter get ready for her wedding school Girl Scouts and everything else that this song seems to help me to wash away the stress and let God take over. Carrie Underwood: Jesus Take the Wheel. I love the songs from the 80’s this type of music has always made me happy yes there are sad songs in that era also but I think that the song Girls Just Want to Have Fun bye Cyndi Lauper has always given me happiness. The reason is that it made me think that girls can have fun to not only boys. Growing up with a younger brother was hard he got to do things that my sister and I could not do. So......

...The song Temporary Home was featured on Carrie Underwood’s hit album Play On that was released in October of 2009. This song had no impact on me at all until March of 2010. One of my dearest friends, Breanna Nicole Barber, was in a motorcycle dirt bike accident. She fell off of the bike hitting her head causing major brain damage. She was a vegetable and was taken off of life support. Her funeral was several days later and it was really the most unbelievable thing that has ever happened to me. They played Temporary Home at her funeral. I knew what a temporary home meant to me. It meant that one day I’d be at my final destination and that would be heaven. In these next few paragraphs I will reinforce the word ‘temporary’. I’ll describe to you my idea of why Carrie Underwood addresses 3 different stages of life. The word ‘temporary’ is specifically reinforced numerous times throughout the song. Carrie uses phrases like, “house that will never be a home”, “nowhere to go”, “passing through”, and “just a stop”. We have a clear understanding of most of these things and that they intend on being for a short period of time. [What about these words/phrases?] Carrie introduces three different stages of life throughout the song. First she mentions a little boy who is in foster care that keeps getting moved and placed in homes that feel unwelcoming to him. Then she mentions a single mom that needs help, has a baby, and practically has nothing. Lastly she mentions an......

Positioning and Differentiation with Health Care Organizations

...Hope Research Hospital in the same city seems curiously devoid of special favors and procedures for celebrities. The City of Hope has positioned itself instead as a breakthrough research hospital that offers hope to the sick and dying. However, it still has a strong tie to Hollywood by virtue of the fact that it is a popular celebrity charity. Hollywood stars performing benefits for the City of Hope abound, and recent benefits have ranged from Miley Cyrus performing with the Jonas Brothers (PR Newsire, 2008) to a Hollywood cookbook launch party to the launch of Prince’s fragrance (Purcell, 2007). A celebrity softball challenge attended by such luminaries as Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill is typical of the types of benefits designed to promote the facility through a form of celebrity endorsement (“Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill,” 2008). Thus, the City of Hope has positioned itself as a celebrity charity organization, a move that has facilitated its endorsement by numerous celebrities in a variety of different benefits. In terms of differentiation, the City of Hope is similar to Cedars-Sinai in that its celebrity ties are one of the primary differentiators between it and similar organizations. The center receives much celebrity and media attention that puts it in the limelight while other research hospitals are less well known to the public. In addition, the City of Hope has been designated by the National Cancer Institute as a “Comprehensive Cancer Center—the......

...You don’t have to sound country, you just have to revel in being country. Superstars are hard enough to come by as it is, and when you think about the ones who have emerged from country music in recent years – Sugarland, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum – their tenuous links to country music as a distinct art form are virtually nonexistent. Ten years ago, Carrie Underwood would’ve been grouped as a pop-country diva. These days, she’s the only recent superstar that even seems to care that her music sounds identifiably country. And while there is no shortage of alternative country acts who are connected to the genre’s roots, their very existence on the outskirts of the mainstream prevent them from having a meaningful enough impact to carry on country music’s rich legacy. Without a new generation of country stars breaking through enough to really captivate the interest of the public, I see no way for country music to continue as a viable art form and culturally relevant presence in contemporary music. Jones made the comment during a recent interview when asked about music by artists like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift. “They had to use something that was established already, and that’s traditional country music. So what they need to do really, I think, is find their own title, because they’re definitely not traditional country music,” he said. “It’s good to know that we still do traditional country music. Alan Jackson still does it, so does George Strait. We......

...Excerpt from Carrie by Stephen King “Take off that dress,” Momma said “No.” “Take it off, Carrie. We’ll go down and burn it in the incinerator together, and then pray for forgiveness. We’ll do penance.” Her eyes began to sparkle with the strange, disconnected zeal that came over her at events which she considered to be tests of faith. ‘I’ll stay home from work and you’ll stay home from school. We’ll pray. We’ll ask for a Sign. We’ll get us down on our knees and ask for the Pentecostal Fire.” “No, Momma.” Her mother reached up and pinched her own face. It left a red mark. She looked to Carrie for reaction, saw none, hooked her right hand into claws and ripped it across her own cheek, bringing thin blood. She whined and rocked back “Washed in the Blood of the Lamb,” she whispered. “Many times. Many times he and I—” “Go away, Momma.” She looked up at Carrie, her eyes glowing. There was a terrifying expression of righteous anger graven on her face. “The Lord is not mocked,” she whispered. “Be sure your sin will find you out. Burn it, Carrie! Cast that devil’s red from you and burn it! Burn itl Burn it! Burn it!” The door slammed open by itself. “Go away, Momma.” Momma smiled. Her bloody mouth made the smile grotesque, twisted. Literary Review of Carrie by Stephen King

...A Mother’s Influence Stephen King’s novel, Carrie, is the story of a girl who uncovers her unique ability on her path to womanhood and power. Stephen King wrote his story about Carrie three years after he graduated from college. During the 1970s, while King was in college, he was transformed by the idea of Women’s Liberation and how it would influence both males and females. King used interstitial, grotesque, sexual, gender, power, and violent literary elements with components of the European and American gothic genre to create a Supernatural Horror/Drama that reflected on life during the time period. Carrie White was raised by her widowed mother, Margaret White, on Carlin St. in Chamberlain, Maine during the mid 1970s. Throughout Carrie’s childhood, she was the subject of mental and physical abuse. Her mother and late father, Ralph White, were religious zealots who attempted to conceal Carrie from the outside world. Often times, when Carrie acted out, Margaret would inflict physical pain upon herself and sentence Carrie the closet to punish her for her wrongdoings. The abuse did not stop at home. At the age of 17, Carry had her first menstrual cycle in the girls’ shower of her high school Ewan Consolidated High School. After the girls recognized Carrie’s confusion and panic, they began to collectively ridicule her until Mrs. Desjardin, their instructor could come to Carrie’s aid. On the way home from school that day, Carrie discovered her telekinetic ability and the......

Carrie Meeber

...Carrie Meeber is nothing more than "a lone figure in a tossing, thoughtless sea". In Sister Carrie by Theordore Drieser, Carrie is portrayed as a very out of the box protagonist. In the novel, Carrie is sent away by her parents to Chicago, seeking money and work. She is immediately seduced by Drouet and abducted by Hurstwood. She escapes Hurstwood but is still tied to her final fate. She's not like any other protagonist; she is greedy, naive and cruel. In the beginning of the novel, Carrie expresses her dislike of country living. She wants money and material belongings. "Money was something that was a power in itself." Carrie saw money as a power object and she would do anything to climb her way up this mountain of "power". It seems as though country living has given Carrie a very twisted view of what money is and what it can do to your life and that, in turn, has made Carrie a very greedy person. After arriving in Chicago, Carrie is immediately impressed and blinded by the flashy belongings of Drouet. "He reached down in his hip pocket and took out a fat purse. It was filled with slips of paper, some milage books and a roll of green books." Carrie mindlessly follows Drouet and his line of money and in the end gets cheated by him and becomes nothing but a mistress. Her mindless following of a man in a flashy suit with a wad of cash, portrays Carrie as being very obviously young and naive. Carrie is also portrayed as a cruel, merciless girl who will crush anyone below her....

...athlete, he is a loving husband and dad to twins. He was fortunate enough to marry his college sweetheart. I am a huge fan of this player, but while researching more information about him, I came across that he co-authored a children’s book entitled Family Huddle, which in text and pictures describes a little about his childhood with his brothers. He has also done voiceovers with his brothers on an episode of The Simpsons in 2009. We have seen this famous athlete on numerous sports channels, but you may have also seen him in a few commercials including Papa Johns. About three years ago he purchased 21 Papa Johns franchise.
