Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos founder of Amazon.com was born Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen January 12, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Jacklyn Gise Jorgensen and Ted Jorgensen who were married just over a year. His mother was a teenage mother who later married when Jeff was five to Miguel Bezos who legally adopted him. Miguel Bezos was born in Cuba immigrated to the United States alone at age 15, worked his way through the University of Albuquerque.
After the marriage, the family moved to Houston, Texas, and Miguel became an engineer for Exxon. Jeff attended River Oaks Elementary in Houston from 4th to 6th grade. His maternal grandfather was a retired regional director of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jeff Bezos spent most of his summer of his youth working with his maternal grandfather at the ranch where his grandfather retired to. He showed intense and varied scientific interests at an early age by rigging an electric alarm to keep his younger siblings out of his room as well as making the garage into a science laboratory for his projects.
Later his family moved to Miami, Florida where he attended high School at Miami Palmetto Senior High School. While in high school he participated in the student’s science training program at the University of Florida which helped him receive a Silver Knight Award in 1982. When he enrolled at Princeton University he planned to pursue a degree in physics which he later changed to Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He graduated in 1986 as a summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
He worked on Wall Street in the computer science field and then worked on building a network for international trade for a company known as Fitel. Then he worked for Bankers Trust, becoming a vice-president. Later on he also worked in computer science for D. E. Shaw & Co. In 1994 on a cross country drive from New York to Settle he wrote up a business plan for Amazon.com. When he returned he set up a business in his garage. His current position as CEO of Amazon.com earns him a salary of $81,840 plus 1.6 million dollars in personal security and owns twenty percent of Amazons stock but does not take stock options.
He is the visionary leader because he comes up with new products and ways of getting them to the customer in the most efficient way. He is intuitive thinker. He is also is analytical because he is consistently analyzing data through spreadsheet and makes math based decisions. He makes no apology for his love of data. He makes database decision and once the math is in he wants it done his way. He can be hyper rational or full of faith. He supports finding small improvements in efficiency at all Amazons huge warehouses while still holding onto his larger vision of changing the world. Most important thing to him is using the latest technology available to run his warehouses in the most efficient way possible. He isn’t afraid to get in the trenches to get at the problems of Amazon.com. He wants projects done in half the time that it seems reasonable to get done. A lot of dotcom companies fell in the 1990s but Bezos didn’t because he was able to reorganize the company to recover and make it grow. The Amazon way seems to project an image of fun but inside it is higher smart, drive fast and above all bet on the numbers. He is the type of leader that takes risk based on knowledge and experience.

How to Get Started with Fountain Pens

...question asked by many, but only answerable by the asker. However, to a newcomer such as yourself, you find that you lack certain, shall we say, knowledge. That’s what this thread is for. You won’t find an overwhelming bundle of information, but hopefully what I have to say will set you on the road to spending all your money on Fountain Pen gear. The first thing you need to answer, before you even ask the question is “How much do I want to spend?” There are so many fun reasons to start writing with a pen, and most of them lead to future purchases. Set a limit (or starting point) for yourself and try (this is really hard on B&B) to stick with it (at first). Inexpensive pens are more readily available than you might think. And some people, me included, agree that starting with one of these options is a great way to see if you’d even enjoy writing with a fountain pen without risking too much from the wallet. Some of the most popular and most highly recommend choices in this category are: Pilot 78G – Get started with cartridges, but a converter is also available, and nibs are interchangeable with the Pilot Plumix. It can also be converted to be eyedropper filled (greater ink capacity) quite easily, with no tools required. Platinum Preppy – Dirt cheap pen, but with engineering beyond it price. The nibs are high quality manufactured, the same nibs are found on much more expensive pens. Some people don’t like the look......

...Business Model Analysis Amazon started as an online bookseller, rapidly expanding into music and movies, and ultimately into electronics and household goods. The online retail line of business includes those products sold by Amazon as a traditional retailer, most commonly as a low-cost retailer, and Amazon claims to have “Earth’s biggest Selection” of products available through its family of websites, sold at the lowest cost at a small profit. However, Amazon doesn’t stock everything that is sold through its website. Another portion of its online retail strategy is to serve as the channel platform for other retailers to sell their products and taking a cut of every purchase. Amazon maintains its status as a destination website, but does not have to maintain inventory on slower-selling products. Analysis based on business model canvas framework (Exhibit 1: Amazon business model canvas), divided into three parts, how Amazon services and products are produced and the costs involved, what Amazon offers to its customer, and who Amazon sells its services and products to and how these are delivered to market. Talking about key partners, Amazon has historically acquired, invested, collaborated and partnered with suppliers and manufacturers delivering its online retail business. Besides, the network among sellers provides chances for dealers to sharing and communicating with each other. Looking at the company’s key activities and resources, Amazon focuses on producing great...

How the Americas Got Started

...How The Americas got started Charlene Cochran Matthew DeFraga His/115 8/12/10 How the Americas got started North American started to civilize about 35,000 years ago. There was a land mass that acted as a bridge like structure that connected Europe and Alaska. Many natives used this land mass to cross over to the Americas. When the Ice age ended the water level rose over the land mass which was submerged leaving the native that were here stranded with no way to go back across to their land. This is how the first descendants as well as their animal made it into North Americans over the years the natives started settlements of different tribes though out North America, Central, and South Americans. They were the first inhabitants (Axia College2010). These people were nomads which means they moved around a lot. The men of the tribe would hunt and fish for food . They also used Animal hides for their clothes and blankets. The women of the tribe plant gardens they also harvest them for more crops like wheat and corn. Amazon is the leading online retailer, which sales books and other supplies, which has changed strategies of the business, in ways to make it better.
