Learnings on Leading People and Teams

In this course, I have learned some key elements that are fundamental when dealing with people in a company – and also at home. In the first session, I realized that sometimes people hear to other people say, but they do not listen. Although this may seem obvious, we don’t realize this much, and it is more common than it seems. In the first session I also learnt about the importance (and the dangers) of making assumptions. In the video presented, the boss asked about bringing a new colleague to work with the main character in a political campaign. The main character made assumptions that plain wrong. He was willing to leave his job because he thought that his boss didn’t want him, and felt even threatened by the arrival of a new colleague, when, in fact, his boss really wanted to know his opinion. In the RESAF case, my main learning was before giving someone negative feedback, it’s fundamental to weight in the pros and cons of the outcome of the feedback, and its respective probabilities of happening. For example, if you believe that the person receiving the feedback is highly unlikely to respond negatively to it, maybe it’s better to not even give the feedback. Also, I learned that, when you open your mouth, you lose control – i.e., when you start giving feedback, you can control what you say but not the way the person will perceive it. So, even if you are very polite and “delicate”, the way the other will understand the feedback is unpredictable. It’s important to take into account different cultures reactions. Also, people are not the same as you – for example, there are “niños de papá” everywhere. In summary, before giving feedback, the best way of acting is: 1) define the problem 2) generate alternatives; 3) analyze weights of pros and cons, and its probabilities of happening. Personally, I don’t agree much with not…...

With numerous rewards and recognition under its label, it is now one of the most chosen CRM option in cloud computing. All the initiatives undertaken by it are sustainable, so the impact is hugely reduced on the planet as a whole. For conducting my analysis, I have chosen Mark Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce.com. I have chosen the company as my subject and the leader, as they have carved a niche for themselves in the field of CRM activities in cloud computing, and it is extremely inspirational to learn from the leadership style portrayed by Mr. Smith in the organization (Baek, S., Kim, K., & Altmann, J. 2014). Leading the Distance Learning in Uae

...“Distance learning” is a field of education that focuses on teaching methods and technology with the aim of delivering teaching when the source of information and the learners are separated by time and distance, or both. The development of computers and the internet have made distance learning distribution easier and faster and have given rise to the “virtual university”, the entire educational offerings of which are conducted online. It is yet very important to understand: Why educational institutions might embrace distance learning? 1) Expanding access: distance education can assist in meeting the demand for education and training demand from the general populace and businesses, especially because it offers the possibility of a flexibility to accommodate the many time-constraints imposed by personal responsibilities and commitments. 2) Alleviate capacity constraints: being conducted off-site, the system reduces the demand on institutional infrastructure. 3) Making money from emerging markets: due to the increasing acceptance from the population of the value of lifelong learning, beyond the normal schooling age, the institutions can benefit financially from this by adopting distance education. 4) Catalyst for institutional transformation: the competitive modern marketplace demands rapid change and innovation, for which distance education programs can act as a catalyst. Working with and Leading People

...WITH AND LEADING People ASSIGNMENT BRIEF The aim of this unit is to develop the skills and knowledge needed for working with and leading others, through understanding the importance of recruiting the right people for the job. So what is this thing of working with others to create something new? To create something which none of us could create on our own? To create something which is often more than the sum of the parts? Surely that’s what organizations do. But somehow I do not see many advertisements for leader of function, general leader, senior leader, corporate leader, leading director, chief executive leader, shop floor leader, finance leader. I do see advertisements for head of function, general manager, senior manager, corporate executive, managing director, chief executive officer, shop floor supervisor, and finance manager. Is it purely semantics? Just words, or is there a meaning behind the words?  I think that there is meaning. And I think that there is a different meaning to leader and manager. And that there is a need for different types of leadership in different types of change. This means that there are actually fewer common threads in this chapter. So unlike other chapters, this assignment will separately address the different ways of leading the four main types of change. The aim of this unit is to develop the skills and knowledge needed for working with and leading others, through understanding the importance of recruiting the right people for......

Leading and Developing Work Team

...us, teamwork is a part of our everyday life. Whether it is at home, in the community, or at work, we are often expected to be a functional part of a performing team. Having a strong team benefits any organization and leads to more successes than failure. In order to understand the competencies needed to build and lead high performance teams, it is helpful to first define a team. Here is a simple but effective description from The Wisdom of Teams (Harvard Business School Press, 1993.) "A team is a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, performance goals, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable." The Work Team is defined by many great practitioners in different sense. According to Griffin and Moorhead it is a “small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, common performance goals, and an approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable.” A group of employees that works semi-autonomously on recurring tasks are called work teams. Work teams are most useful where job content changes frequently and employees with limited skills and a specific set of duties are unable to cope.
