Thesis/ Claim(in my words):
Essentially I believe what the author is doing is showing us a history of or evolution of teaching and of learning. All of which have brought us to this second part of the article where she believes we are now which is in the era of MBE teaching and learning. Which is further implicated in the reference to the other articles in the book Mind, Brain, and Education Science: A comprehensive guide to the new brain-based teaching (W.W. Norton).
Part Two: Review of the Article
This essay is more based on the factual history of teaching and learning and veers off into the topic or argument which is about the MBE style of teaching/learning. But in this second part, we see in the mid to late 80’s the birth of neuroscience. By the late 1980’s scientists, psychologists and the like started many foundations so as to study more on these new concepts of the mind. Then as the 90’s brought forth the “decade of the brain” two basic types of learning theories were strengthened: modular, domain specific versus global theories. Newly termed cognitive neuroscientists begin doing experiments ‘based on global theories of how the brain worked in terms of teaching and learning experiences.’ During these years the education system began to point fingers at the educators and begin to try and lay blame as to the difficulties of teaching.…...

Library of Congress Relevance to School Libraries

...Library of Congress Relevance to School Libraries Donna Smith University of North Texas SLIS 5208 Library of Congress Relevance to School Libraries Introduction The Library of Congress (LOC) plays a momentous role in acquirement, distribution, and preservation of America’s historical and current documents like books, journals, political manuscripts (like the declaration of independence rough draft), government publications, map, films, sound recording, photographic images, and films. LOC was established in America in the first decade of the nineteenth century to act as a researching facility for inquiries made by Congress (Santella, 2006). However, after many years the facility has grown to become a leading institution that encourages reading and literacy among students and the general public. LOC is pertinent in encouraging research of critical information among students by improving information opportunities accessible to students so that they can utilize their potential present times. The twenty-first century is faced with intricate life and work setting and for this reasons, learning and innovation skills have emerged as the qualities that separate students who are prepared to face these challenges and those who are not. The role played by the LOC is evidenced by U.S integral and superb government structure that has existed for years and rated as the best in the world. LOC success can act as a model......

Library Experience

... October 11, 2013 My Library Experience Coming to Houston Community College was a huge blur for me. No one told me it was going to be a confusing mess. Also, no one told me the people working there were not friendly and were not helpful; I had to find that out by myself. I had no idea what college was going to be like. The only thing that I found helpful was going to The Leaning Hub class and learning about the library and how they work. Coming to The Learning Hub class showed me ways that I can get information on books, find books, and get a book transferred to a campus close to me. Upon going to The Learning Hub class, I though Houston Community College’s libraries were regular city libraries. Once I got into The Learning Hub class I found out that that was completely wrong. As I sat there listening to Mr. Hord talk about how to begin to look for a book, I found that being in a library at a HCC was going to be the most helpful place in college. When looking for a book at a Houston Community College Library you have to begin with what the title or topic the novel is written about, then go online at the Houston Community College library homepage and type the topic or title in. Once you find the novel you are looking for you can check and see which campuses hold the book, you can see if it is in transit, checked out or requested. If the novel is there at the campus you are at, there is a call number that you can use to find your book in the library. An example of the......

Library System

...A Library System 1. Inception We have been asked to build a computer based library system that will handle the bookkeeping aspects of a library and provide user browsing facilities. The first thing to do is to go and find out about the target library or libraries to see what they do now and what they would like to be able to do. We get the following data: 2. Requirements Books and Journals. The library contains both books and journals. It may have several copies of the same book. Some of the books are for short term loans only. All other books may be borrowed by any library member for 3 weeks. Only members of staff may borrow journals. Members of the library can normally borrow up to 6 items at a time, but members of staff may borrow up to 12 items at a time. New books and journals arrive regularly and sometime disposed of; the catalogue needs to be updated. The current year’s journals are sent away to be bound at the end of each year. Borrowing. It is essential that the system keeps track of when books and journals are borrowed and returned. The new system should produce reminders when a book is overdue. It may be desirable to allow users to extend their loans if the book is not reserved. The system enforces the rules for borrowing given above. Browsing: The system should allow users to search for a book on a particular topic or by a particular author etc. The user should then be able to check if the book is on loan and if so to reserve the......

The Future of Libraries

...The Future of Libraries Robin Singh Parmar T00522848 Thompson Rivers University The Future of Libraries Technology (namely, ‘Internet’) has made a very significant impact on our lives. It has brought about those changes that were not even expected. One of the affected yet quite ignored field is the field of libraries. As we continue to go hand in hand with the techno culture, we need to ask ourselves that, are we leaving hands with the library culture? Slowly and steadily, as we keep watching as mere spectators, we are able to see that technology has replaced ways of doing things. It is a very difficult state to say whether it is an advantage or a disadvantage. There were days when people used to consider libraries as a place of learning but now is more like a community centre. Technology did create a gap which was named as the “digital divide” (S. Coffman 2012). People today have become so used to this technology that it has become a basic necessity. Sherry Turkle talks about this in her book, ‘Alone together’ published in 2011. Turkle tells us as to how technology was earlier perceived as a substitute has now become the primary source. Turkle argues technology that was earlier used to help us find time has in turn to lead us more and more busy life. We feel that we are free but we are not. Technology had offered us a virtual world, a virtual ‘AVATAR’ of our own self. But as we continue to use it, we are no longer able to differentiate between the virtual and the......

...Library System 1. INTRODUCTION Ramon Magsaysay Technological University shall be a leading people’s university of science and technology for sustainable development in global society. CORE VALUES R- ighteous, results-based and responsible governance M- oral courage, integrity and honesty T- ransparency, trust and respect for self and others U- nity in diversity and being one the community BRIEF HISTORY The Ramon Magsaysay Technological University, a merger of three public education institutions in the province of Zambales, was established by virtue of Republic Act 8498 enacted on February 12, 1998 through the initiative of Antonio M. Diaz. The University Charter integrated the former Ramon Magsaysay Polytechnic College (RMPC) in Iba, the Western Luzon Agricultural College (WLAC) in San Marcelino, an the Candelaria School of Fisheries (CSF), after a three-year transition period. The strengths of its parents-institutions, which had existed since the early 1990s served RMTU’s springboard for its accelerated growth and development. The RMPC in 1998, which is now RMTU’s main Campus, was found as a farm school in 1910. It was converted into a provincial trade in 1919. Through the years, it metamorphosed into Zambales Trade School on 1993., Western Luzon School of Arts and Trades in 1953, Zambales Scool of Arts and Trades in 1957, Ramon Magsaysay Memorial School of Arts and Trades in 1961. Whatever notes or whatever you need to put on the application you need to put on onto Sirsi in the extended part under notes. No notes on the paper applications, not worth putting any extra notes on the paper application. There is no reason for anyone to write stored or any other notes on the registration form staff need only to insure form is completed with the requested info and signed by the customer and make sure there is only one account and data entry completed and new entry updated. Before customer leaves the desk any additional notes on form serve no purpose and are a waste of time for the library. January rd 3 email was sent out. Everybody understand that? Were passing it around so you can see. And then Mercedes sent me an email, they had sent previous and Virginia has about the applications too. it is mainly about the users whenever somebody pay for a, she had returned a book that was in collection, it still on her acct so I had to call central because on this email it says that we need to let know if we are going to waive some fines from collection because they need to update it at central. So they told me that the patron has to pay the 10 dollars even though that they returned the book, they did not use to do that we used to waive for the collection but now they have to pay for it. Library Hours

...THINK ABOUT THE LIBRARY HOURS BEING REQUIRED EACH SEMESTER? A library is a place where all the collection of books, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, maps, prints, etc. kept for reading and consultation to facilitate reference as by classification and indexing. In my own opinion, the library hours being required each semester is very much congruous and pertinent. It showcase the students the ability to give importance and to consider the library to be valuable despite the fact that they only depend upon the advances of technology, with just a click in the internet, everything will be given and all you have to do is to copy and paste without reading the details and tidings. Disseminating the library hours will bestow the dexterity of the students in terms of searching with understandings regarding the problem, assignments and projects. Through this, it will enhance more the capability of the student’s to be assertive in what they’re thinking, doing and sharing because “Libraries are not made; they grow.” IS IT SOMETHING THAT MUST EVEN BE REQUIRED OF YOU OR SOMETHING YOU OUGHT TO BE DOING EVEN WITHOUT PROMPTING? Library hours are not necessary; I guess an individual has its own way on how he/she is comfortable in gaining information or researching, whether through the internet, library or any other tracks or researching, but as of this moment, I do believe that library hours should be a requisite because it opens up the mind and to deliver that a library still exist,......

...people get when they walk into this library. Perfume and cologne smell lingers in the air. Tall ceilings with gigantic round light fixtures that hang down, with the lights dimmed. As I walked in, it was so calm and peaceful. Rows and rows of books. Magazines and books lying everywhere. The new books felt smooth, the old books made crinkly noises as you turned the pages and the old table had many rough spots. Artificial trees and plants stand in almost every corner of the library, giving it a unique and beautiful look. A magnificent oil painting, located over the fireplace made you feel at home. The librarian was young with auburn colored hair that she had up in a bun, glasses hanging on a multicolored chain to her chest and her dress was all flower print. The carpet is made thick and comfy so the sound of people walking by won’t disturb the focused students sitting in the library. I could hear nothing but the quiet peaceful sounds of paper turning and minds thinking at their best. Telephone ringing, copy machines and whispers is all you really hear in the library. All different ages of people go to the library to just relax and read in a calm setting environment because in libraries the noise is very minimal. The librarians are very kind and helpful. Quiet rooms were occupied by students preparing for a test. Different areas of the library were occupied by many high school and college students. The young adults get great use out of the library for use of the free internet......

Library Secure

...very important in every side, it provide necessary information for studying and living. Raffles in Ho Chi Minh also has a Library located in the highest floor of the building which provides students all reading materials that imported and updated with the current teaching course and subject. However, the number of students is growing quickly when the books and reading materials are limited. Students are not allowed to borrow the book home and they usually cannot buy the books because of the high cost of copyrighted books Because of that, we write this proposal to suggest about opening an online e- library system for student in Raffles Ho Chi Minh to use books material easily. The system will provide a website for students to read e-books (electronic online books) and reserve to borrow book from the library. The system also control the books logically to make sure it will be returned on time and won’t be lost Moreover, the system provides reference e-books such as Making the Grade, Communication Skills, etc. Books which contain meaningful story relate to the study course will appear in the website also. The e-libraries have the potential to store much more information, simply because digital information requires very little physical space to contain it. As such, the cost of maintaining an e-library is much lower than that of a normal library. Opening e-library system for Raffles student in Ho Chi Minh City is possible and the cost to run this system is not high. We believe......
