Introduction to Situation
The paper analyzes and summarizes how the automotive industry is impacted by the macro economy. In helping my friend Rick expand his small manufacturing plant that produces parts for the auto industry, I’m going to identify a brief history of the automotive industry, how it impacts the GDP, the unemployment rate, and the inflation rate as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The supply and demand of the automotive industry as well as the profits derived from the sector are clearly impacting by then macroeconomic policies. The industry’s history demonstrates the trends it follows in the business cycle and how economic indicators have impacted the performance of the industry over the years. The measure of production, interest rates, real GDP, automotive sales and inflation and unemployment are some of the most compelling instruments that can be used to assess the state of the automotive industry.

Business Cycles
The U.S automotive industry saw a steady expansion from its inception until 1978 in which where production reached its all-time peak. The industry showed a small contraction and a quick recovery leading to its peak between 1972 and 1976. In the early 1980 there was a big drop in production units and the industry fell into its first true recession. The industry recovered in the mid 80s peaking in 1988, but never reached its previous high before falling into another recession that lasted from 1990 to 1992 (Smith, 1996). The automotive industry’s production rates have been cycling through different business phases throughout history. In 1999 the automotive industry finally recovered and reached its previous high. Now the automotive industry is again experiencing a recession. Traditionally, during times of expansion the inflation in the economy is…...

Project Management Ch 2

...Assignment 2 (1) (20 points) Chapter 3, Question 20 on Page 160 Why is it more difficult to keep the project on its time and cost schedules the later the project gets in its life cycle? The later you are in the project, the less time you have to fix the schedule if/when things go wrong. When completion comes to near, the schedules become the high-priority goal, and cost suffers. Obstacles also tend to be clustered around two issues: first, last minute schedule and technical changes, and second, a series of problems that have as their source the uncertainty surrounding what happens to members of the project when the project is completed. The way to deal with last-minute schedule and technical changes is “the best you can.” Early in the project, you can rearrange tasks, add resources or simply the project; later on, those options aren't available. (2) (20 points) Chapter 3, Question 13 on Page 160 Identify the five multicultural factors requiring special consideration. The five multicultural factors requiring special consideration are: 1. ...with Q1 and Q2. 2. Define any key terms that you feel are important in answering the following question as they are defined in the textbook and explain, in your own words what those definitions mean, and then thoroughly analyze each situation to answer the following questions. My Definitions: Aggregate demand – is total demand of goods and services that are produced in an economy. Short run aggregate supply - is when the total output is planned but the prices in the economy can change. Wages, rates and technology should be held constant though. Long run aggregate supply – shows total planned output when prices and wages can change. Using aggregate demand, short-run aggregate supplies, and long-run aggregate supply curves, explain the process and causes by which each of the following economic events will move the economy from one long-run macroeconomic equilibrium to another. Use the diagrams below, resizing them as necessary, to illustrate your analysis. In each case, what are the short-run and long-run effects on the aggregate price level and aggregate output? a. There is a decrease in households’ wealth due to a decline in the stock market A decrease in household’s wealth will also decrease consumer spending. The long run equilibrium starting at E1, the aggregate demand curve will shift from D1 to D2. The short run effect is that the drop in prices and demand will lead to unemployment and the economy will now be the short macroeconomics equilibrium......

Project Macroeconomics

...Project Paper 1. What is the gross domestic product? Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, is the total market value of final goods and services produced within an economy in a given year. It is the most common measure of an economy’s total output. 2. When prices change, how do we measure real income? When prices change we measure real income with 3. What is unemployment? Why can’t it be driven down to zero? Unemployment is when you don’t have a job. Unemployed people are those who don’t have a job but are actively looking for work. Unemployment cannot be driven down to zero because the lower the unemployment rate is, the harder it will be for businesses to hire new employees. The harder it is to find qualified employees, the more competitive businesses will be, causing wages to increase. When wages increase, prices will increase for the whole economy. 4. What is the Consumer Price Index and how is it related to the cost of living? The Consumer Price Index measures the cost of a fixed basket of goods chosen to represent the consumption pattern of a typical consumer. Economists use the Consumer Price Index when prices change to measure the cost of living. They will compare the price certain goods from one year to another, measuring the change in price to determine how much money you would need to uphold your previous standard of living. 5. How does increased immigration affect wages and the level of output in the economy? Increased immigration actually increases wages for...

...Course Project 2 Professor Mapp Shruti Sadhwani April 2016 I. II. Introduction “Cousin Edgar is always thinking of the next business idea. This time, he plans to invest in buying two gas stations. He reckons American consumers have come to accept the high gasoline prices, and estimates world prices for gasoline will increase even further due to increasing high demand from India and China. Besides, Cousin Edgar thinks he will make a good profit on the sale of convenience items at each station. But before buying the gas stations, he decides to ask for your advice since you are taking this course in Business Economics. You recall reading about making pricing decisions for gasoline on pages 173-174 of the textbook. You also recall reading about perfectly competitive markets in Chapter 12, and the need for differentiation in Chapter 13. Being skeptical of Cousin Edgar’s optimism on the profitability of selling gasoline and convenience items, you decide to research the significance of the influence that macroeconomic conditions can have on the success of a gas station. So you research the economy in terms of GDP growth rate, interest rates, level of unemployment, the business cycle, fiscal policy, monetary policy, international trade, and demographics. You want to provide Cousin Edgar with the most informed advice possible. In addition to macroeconomic issues, you also evaluate the gas station idea from longer-term perspectives.” My Cousin Edgar is......

It allows the old to move out, the young to move in, while those in the middle move up, down and sideways. Understanding that full unemployment can never be achieved, voluntary and temporary unemployment serve as the lesser of the “evils”. Additionally healthy economic indicators are when citizens 1) feel confident enough to leave their existing employment, it indicates a belief in the marketplace that opportunities are abundant and 2) are experiencing short periods of unemployment. The frictional unemployment segment provides both tangible and intangible information cues for the four key indexes used to monitor inflation in the U.S. As an employer, I see the benefit of this segment because it offers me a larger pool of talent to choose from, thus improving my business.
