Manager as a Role Model

Being a manager comes with a lot of responsibilities and not everyone can handle such a pressure of being a leader. It is not necessary that a hard working individual with a lot of experience can be a good leader, as sometimes a good leader may not be competitive as some of the employees. As any company’s manager comes with many responsibilities including hiring, terminating, scheduling, inventory, supervising and etc. A supervisor shall always lead with example because the employees look up to their bosses and expects to learn from them because one day they might take management position. Therefore, a good manager or supervisor should always emphasizes on good work ethics. What are some of the good work ethics that everyone should follow? As any successful company, they have Code of Ethics. In other words, company have certain rules and guidelines which are expected to be followed by everyone including the executives and management team. Apparently some rules can be bend while others are broken. But, braking company policies or rules are against the code of ethics and yet sometimes it can cost employees their jobs. In order to prevent such mishaps, managers or supervisors plays vital role in order to keep everything in order. Such managers can be role models for their employees. Many employees look upon their supervisors or managers as role models, therefore it is extremely important for supervisors to set a great examples for their employees and lead with examples. Besides leading with examples, managers make sure that company policies are followed. The company I work for has strict guidelines and everyone expect to follow them. Merton who said that individuals compare themselves with "reference groups" full of people who occupy the social role to which the individual aspires. Adults, parents, people in authority, people of influence, celebrities, are often idolized and looked up to by the people around them. Since by definition a role model has to exhibit positive behavior, only some of these people qualify as role models. Others serve as bad examples, which unfortunately can be just as influencing. My stepfather is my role model, he has shown me the ways and steps of life to reach our full potential. My Father is a hard worker, he works 5am-8pm Monday through Sunday.
