Ethical Issues and Management Paper

...In everyday situations, managers are expected to be more than just the rule enforcers of an organization. They are expected to be the role models and provide guidance for the employees who work under them to develop them to their full potential. Every day managers are faced with an ethical dilemma of some nature and they are expected to work through them and make the proper decision to better themselves and the company they work for. A few ethical issues a manager would face would be hiring, performance evaluations, discipline, termination, diversity, and harassment. The topic I chose to focus on for this paper is moral and ethical issues managers face when dealing with hiring new employees for their company. The moral and ethical issues faced by managers dealing with hiring new employees are that it could come off that employers could tend to be a little discriminating when it comes to choosing the right fit for their company. Although most companies insist that they are an Equal Opportunity Employer, some may say that may not always be the case. Depending on what your company advertises, an employer must select a candidate that appeals to their type of clientele. To elaborate, a hotel manager would not choose a candidate for a position at the front desk of a hotel who has tattoos all over them or are not well groomed. Many may say that this is discrimination against appearance, but you have to consider the type of clientele a hotel gets. There are many business......

Managerial Issues

...Kiera Maurer March 13, 2013 Case Study #2 TCEM 100 The situation at hand holds prime examples of managerial duties that need to be learned and handled properly. These may not occur everyday but they can happen several times in different situations or places whilst still being very fragile circumstances. By taking this current example I will look at every angle to see how the best approach should be taken and go from there. To begin I would like to point out that with my “locking of the room” from the guests ability for re-entry, I should expect the worst which would be an upset customer. Though, by taking the standpoint of an employee and wanting to achieve customer satisfaction, pleasing one customer and getting them their room on time will uphold my service expectations and removing the current guests ability to re-enter their room is only following policy and doing my job. By knowing that the confrontation is occurring by the front desk I would first kindly ask the guest to step into an office to avoid any other guest disruptions and have a fellow employee join me not only to have an eye witness but to also have the power in numbers in case of any further misconduct from the guest. After explaining our reasoning for the room being locked and the guests continuing to react with loud and verbally violent words, I would then have the other employee call security if the guest refuses to cooperate. I am fully aware of the consequences that might occur including, a......

...Critical Issues in Policing Paper Mark Camarillo CJA/214 May 9, 2013 Gary M. Clifford II, M.A. Critical Issues in Policing Paper Many issues arise when policing in the community on a daily basis. Police officers have to face personal, social control, democratic principles, professional codes, public trust, and to adhere for the safety of the public. Police officers deal with different stressors on a daily basis not only their own personal life but the life they deal with in the society. They must prepare mentally, internally, externally, physical, and operational. They face the fact that they may not only have their own life in danger but as well as others at all times. Furthermore, they may not have the support at work from others and also the support from the community that may put them in danger. It is important that all officers have thorough training and safety practices. Officers also rely on the most modern technology so that they can proceed with their job effectively. All the training and all the safety that officers are provided with still does not guarantee their safety. Therefore, it is important to acknowledge and give gratitude to all of the thousands of officer throughout our nation that put their life on the line for our safety. The use of less-than lethal weapons has decreased injuries for officers and offenders. It is nothing new that officers have been using wooden clubs since the eighteen hundreds, now they use pepper spray and conducted......

Managerial Accounting Paper

...Managerial accounting is a branch of accounting that observes and calculates the “actual costs” of a company or organizations operation. Managerial accounting is very important in helping managers within the company/organization make decisions that are best for the company in day-to-day and short term operations. Managerial accounting information that is used for making decisions are; information on the cost of a company/organizations products and services, budgets, performance reports, and any other information which might assist managers in their planning and control activities. Managerial and financial accounting is different in a few aspects, from the types of statements they prepare to the reasons that each statement is prepared and how they are important to users of the statements. Managerial accounting is more for the need and use within the company/organization, where financial accounting is used more for outside of the company/organization. Managerial accounting is concentrated more on providing information to personnel that works within the company to help direct and control the operation within that company. It can help determine things such as what to charge for products made by the company/organization based on what the costs to produce the product are. ...Alternatives to Incarceration Abstract Our country continues to search alternatives to the overcrowded prisons bulging at the seams. Citizens are crying for a relief on taxation in funding these prisons. The criminal justice system has searched for years for ideas to limit incarceration. Some alternative programs have withstood the test of time, some continue to build a name for themselves, and others have just come onto the scene. This paper will focus on three alternative programs to placing adults in prisons. These programs include military services, intensive supervision programs (ISP’s), and Restorative Justice programs. Each provides some type of benefit to criminals, corrections department, and society. Alternatives to Incarceration Our country seems to have gone in various directions trying to find a successful justice system to work in punishing crimes. We went from a rehabilitation system, to no tolerance policies in the 1980’s. Overcrowded prisons forced officials to let prisoners out early in the 90’s. Taxpayers wanted something done with crime in their communities, but didn’t know which way to turn. A faulty criminal justice system has been blamed in such that it had, “Inadequate or ineffective rehabilitation programs, lack of drug treatment, insufficient funding for resettlement after prison, and other . . . policies. . . .”, (Sherman & Strang, 2007, p. 12). Crimes continue to be a major concern within American society, yet our only response...

Ethic Issues Paper

...Ethic Issues Paper MGT/216 Organizational Ethics and Social Responsibility 08/31/2010 Cindy Joseph Ethic Issues Paper What are business ethics in today’s world? What ethical issues within today’s business environment affect our community and organizations? These topics will be addressed in the following paragraphs. Before one can begin to address ethical business issues that affect our community and organizations, one must first define what business ethics are. Business ethics as defined by Trevino and Nelson (2007), as “the principles, norms, and standards of conduct governing guidelines for work-related conduct, governing an individual or group” (p. 13). Guidelines established by employers to manage their employees (Trevino & Nelson, 2007). In essence, these guidelines are established to manage the employee’s expectations in the workplace. These guidelines can be as simple as what time to arrive and depart from work to more complex issues, such as managing internal relationships or how to deal with specific conflict of interest issues, especially when in a position of influence. In the advertising industry, where I have worked for the last eight years, there are many ethical issues that through the normal course of business, one must confront and successfully manage. Three issues that I believe to be at the top of the list are conflict of interest, ethics relating to accounting and moral ethics regarding products advertised. Conflict of interest is an......

...and use of their telecommunications transport networks and services. In addition, developing countries are entitled to receive technical assistance from the WTO Secretariat.     14. What is the so-called “built-in agenda” of the GATS? back to top The GATS, including its Annexes and Related Instruments, sets out a work programme which is normally referred to as the “built-in” agenda. The programme reflects both the fact that not all services-related negotiations could be concluded within the time frame of the Uruguay Round, and that Members have already committed themselves, in Article XIX, to successive rounds aimed at achieving a progressively higher level of liberalization (see below). In addition, various GATS Articles provide for issue-specific negotiations intended to define rules and disciplines for domestic regulation (Article VI), emergency safeguards (Article X), government procurement (Article XIII), and subsidies (Article XV). These negotiations are currently under way. At the sectoral level, negotiations on basic telecommunications were successfully concluded in February 1997 and negotiations in the area of financial services in mid-December 1997. In these negotiations, Members achieved significantly improved commitments with a broader level of participation.     15. Are the results of the extended sectoral negotiations in telecommunications and financial services legally different from other sector-specific commitments? back to top No. The results of......

...Managerial Issues Tracy Guillen UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX Application Implementation CMGT 445 Dr. Steve Powelson May 06, 2012 Managerial Issues Managing an IS infrastructure can be a difficult task. The difficulties arise based on the type of business, preventative measures, industry standards, training, and globalization. Each of these areas needs special attention and if not managed correctly could be costly to the business. The following will illustrate the above mentioned difficulties and provide insight into how these areas can be maintained. Configuration Management and Maintenance “Configuration management is a collection of processes and tools that promote network consistency, track network change, and provide up to date network documentation and visibility.” (Cisco, 2006, p. 1) Configuration can either help or hinder a system. Cisco offers a white paper that specifically outlines best practices for configuration management. The paper outlines the following: “Software Version Control Management, IP Addressing Standards and Management, Naming Conventions and DNS/DHCP Assignments, Standard Configuration and Descriptors, and Configuration Upgrade Procedures.” (Cisco, 2006, p. 1) Software Version Control Management is achieved by using the same software version on devices that are similar.
