...Wk 2 Study: Social Media Policies, Concerted Activity and HR Management MGMT410 Human Resource Management 1.) Ethically, and in the spirit capitalism, few should question the right of an employer to discipline an employee who used Facebook, Twitter or other social media to complain about his employer, employer's business practices or to make disparaging comments about his supervisor or co-workers. As an employee, you represent your place of employment. Typically, there are routes to pursue complaints. If not, then it is just a matter of being an adult and discussing the issue to come to a reasonable conclusion. In this case, we will look at an unfair labor practice (ULP) charge filed by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in October of 2010. American Medical Response (AMR), an ambulance service in Connecticut, fired an employee for posting deprecating comments about her supervisor on Facebook. Other employees joined in the conversation and added comments of their own. The NLRB alleged that the employee's comments were protected "concerted activity" under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) Section 7 of the NLRA states: "Employees shall have the right to self-organization, to form, join, or assist labor organizations, to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing, and to engage in other concerted activities for the purpose of collective bargaining or other mutual aid or protection, and shall also have the right to......

...Charles McCarthy MGMT 340 Chapter 3 What are some sources of risk in a systems analysis and design project, and how does a project manager cope with risk during the stages of project management? Many problems can plague of software project. A risk is a potential problem; it might happen, it might not. But regardless of the outcome, it's a really good idea to identify it, assess its probability of occurrence, estimate its impact, and establish a contingency plan should the problem actually occur. The key to managing risks is to build contingency plans for risk and to build enough time into your project schedule to mitigate risks that you do not know about. A risk in a project is an event that (might) happens that affects the project. Most of the risks are negative and hinder the progress of the project, but some of them are positive. The stages of project risk management are as follows: Risk Identification Risk Analysis Risk Response Planning Risk Monitoring and Control Suppose that you have been contracted by a jewelry store to manage a project to create a new inventory tracking system. Describe your initial approach to the project. What should your first activity be? What information would you need? To whom might you need to speak? An inventory tracking system for jewelry is a very challenging one and has its own complexities because jewelers usually adopt the system of tracking inventory based on traditions that have been followed for years......

...MGMT 340 Chapter 10, 1-5 CH. 10: 1- Why don’t information systems projects work out as planned? What causes the differences between the plan and reality? The cold hard truth is that projects always look better on paper; this is because in the development phase they are still lacking the human element. When projects are actually implemented you have to consider laziness, incompetence, and level of knowledge. In short you have to account for human error. There are systems glitches that can be unexpected as well. Just as with people, software does not always perform up to expectations. Files can get corrupted and will not run as planned. You can never plan for everything but through risk management you can help to mitigate the impact. CH. 10: 2- Why is it important to document change requests? What happens if a development team doesn’t? In the business world documentation is probably the most important resource a project team can have. First, it provides something to look back upon in the event of a mistake. You can learn from previous failures with proper documentation. Second, particularly with change requests, it helps to keep people accountable. As a project manager you can pull up the proper documentation and be able to say that this is what was agreed upon and from there you can decide whether or not those expectations were met. Formal documentation of change requests is similar to a contract. CH. 10: 3- When a project is late, do you think that adding more people......

...Homework Week 2 | HRM 320 Employment Law | Elizabeth Larson | 3/13/2015 3/13/2015 1. What do you think are some of the factors in the modern workplace that contribute to a theft of time? How can those factors be managed? The development of newer technologies within the workplace has transformed work arrangements and habits. There are many examples of theft of time including sleeping on the job, taking a longer lunch, and even taking care of personal responsibilities during work hours. “Time theft costs employers more than $400 billion per year in lost productivity” (Donskey). One of the biggest factors in theft of time is the internet. Employees have easy access to the internet, from work issued computers to the use of smart phones. Unfortunately, with the use of personal cell phones, even with policies put into place to prevent and/or prohibit the use of cell phones during work hours, is usually not enough to stop many employees. Furthermore, these forms of theft of time typically go unnoticed by companies but policies and other means of prevention can be put in place to deter employees from such activities. Many companies block out popular websites, such as social media websites or some competitor websites. Also, computers issued by the company are company property and are monitored. When employees know their internet usage is being watched, they are more careful with what they attempt to access on the internet during work hours. To monitor hours worked,......

There are many ways and sources to gather information for this. I don’t really think you would ever be done but when you have exhausted all resources and cannot seem to get any more information I would say that you were complete. 5. Why shouldn’t Petrie’s staff build their own unique system in-house? ...MGMT 215 9/15/15 Reflection 2 When creating a new product or an idea, entrepreneurs must consider ventures. With a creation of a new product there are always risks involved. Once someone decides to build a new venture he should lay out all the risk factors that may be detrimental. Personally, I would have a clear written statement to show my vision for stakeholders along with future customers in order to gain trust once I decide to build an entrepreneurial venture. To gain further trust and respect I would look around for investors for credibility. By doing this customers gain extra assurance since the majority are hesitant when hearing about a new product. If the product is supported by a solid financial banking it is more admirable. On the mission statement I would emphasize the authenticity of my product as well as its durability. Furthermore, ethics is one of the most important factors in good business. I would stress the importance of reliability in order to build a strong group that truly supports my venture. I believe that good business starts from forming good relationships with partners and customers. To do so, I would have to be as truthful about myself as possible. I do think that all businesses tend to bend some rules, whether in a moderate or immoderate amounts. However, I want to be as truthful as I could be. As mentioned, trust is vital in business. If you lose trust from the stakeholders your venture would not be supported, which would ultimately lead to a...
