The Mini

...About a week ago after driving my Mini Cooper for a short distance the EML light in the car would come on and the car would hesitate. The car then would loose pressure dropping the speed from normal speed limit to no more than 5 – 10 mph. After parking the car, I noticed that the fan would come on and remain on for an extended period. When I lifted the hood of the car, I noticed that the coolant supply would be low. Replacing the coolant supply did not seem to fix the problem. I attempted to figure out the problem with an experiment. I drove the same speed around the block multiple times. The third or fourth time I noticed a difference. When I drove the car approximately a mile, the temperature gage would increase activating the EML. Then the car would hesitate, loose pressure, and decrease in mph. It seemed to be a direct correlation with an increase in temperature, the EML light coming on, losing pressure, and the decrease in mph. So to make sure there were not any confounding variables, I drove the car slowly to ensure speed was not a factor. Decreasing the speed did not change anything. I was able to make the same observation. I took the car to the auto repair shop. The repair person informed me that there was a leak in the coolant system. The leak caused an increase in the cars temperature. The increase in the cars temperature activated the EML light. The car would loose pressure. When the car lost pressure, the protection mechanism would activate to prevent any real...

Mini Case

...Mini Case BUS 401: Principles of Finance Chapter 11 Mini Case A. Due to flows being an item that the firm obtains and can reinvest, Caledonia should concentrate on cash flows verses accounting profits. When cash flows are being evaluated, the firm’s benefits and costs can be reviewed in a better manner. Since firms are more interested in benefits for the shareholders, they are only interested in the cash flows after-tax. Incremental cash flows are reviewed the most because firms are more concerned with their increased values when the project’s marginal benefits are being evaluated. B. When reviewing cash flow items, depreciation is not one of them. But depreciation to play a role in the differential cash flows of the project because of its effect on taxes. Overall expenses are increased by the expense of depreciation. Depreciation reduces accounting profits which also impacts cash flow by reducing taxes. C. Since firms are more concerned with incremental after-tax cash flows only, sink costs are typically ignored. Regardless of the results in regards to a project, sink costs have happened and are not considered incremental cash flows. J. Because the NPV is greater than zero and the IRR is greater than the rate of return, than the project should be accepted. K. The total project risk, also known as the project standing alone risk, disregards the statistic that the majority of the projects risk will be diversified away as the......

Blue-eyed soul -> R&B / Soul performed by white artists, this music has a really nice vibe. Pop rock -> Mix of a catchy pop style and guitar-based rock. [Target group] In my opinion, there is not one specific target group for this album, just like the other three albums of DeGraw. He has a voice that is attractive for a lot of people. Teenage girls and boys, 20-30 year olds, and even 50 year olds like his voice and music. His album is a mix of blue-eyed soul and pop rock, I think that that’s also a reason why it is attractive to more than one target group. His tour concert in Amsterdam was totally sold out, so that means that a lot of people are interested and a fan of his music. [Period] The album is released on September 20, 2011. In my opinion, the album is timeless, but that is......

...which shows that the job is not only affecting the main character physically, but also psychotically. It is interrupting his mind in his every-day, which indicates that the annoyance really is a problem for him. The short story is written as a 1st person narrator, where we mainly follow the main characters thoughts in the factory, and not so much about his real life. What we do get to hear about his personal life, is that he drives a white Mini Cooper, which is not a cheap car. He does not have a girlfriend and does not seem interested in any of the girls at work; in fact he seems to abhor one of the ladies and her attire. He even admits that he has “[..] zero confidence with women anyway” (p. 4, l.96). We do not read about him even attending any guys either and in general, he seems to be a very introverted person. One thing that is quite funny about him is that he is very in to the English punk rock band, Joy Division. There is now three things that opposes each other. His very boring, low paid factory job, his classy white Mini Cooper and his love for the dirty, gritty, English punk rock band, Joy Division. The reason for his taste in music is that he can let himself loose to it and get all of his anger from work out, just by listening to this music, consisting of fast drums, loud guitar, yelling vocals and a pumping bass. It gets his pulse moving, which is does not at work or in his spare time. The main reason the main character dislikes this factory so......

Mini Case

...Mini Case #2 JetBlue: losing the Magic Touch?   1. What type of generic business strategy is JetBlue pursuing: cost leadership, differentiation, or integration? A differentiation strategy seeks to create higher value for customers than the value that competitors create, by delivering products or services with unique features while keeping cost at the same or similar levels. A cost-leadership strategy, in contrast, seeks to create the same or similar value for customers by delivering products or services at a lower cost than competitors, enabling the firm to offer lower prices to its customers. And integration strategy is a combination of differentiation and cost-leadership strategy. In this case, JetBlue is pursuing integration strategy because JetBlue reproduced many of SWA’s cost-reducing activities such as flying point-to-point to directly connect city pairs. It also predominantly uses one type of airplane, the Airbus A320, to lower its maintenance costs. And in addition, it flies longer distances and transports more passengers per flight per than SWA, further driving down its costs. So far, all these strategies have to do with cost-leadership. JetBlue also incorporated the differentiation strategy in their model. They executed the differentiation strategy by offering value-enhancing features include high-end 100-seat Embraer regional jets with regional jets with leather seats, individual TV screen with movies, Live TV, Fox TV, and Direct TV programming, 100 channels of...

...Jane Doe Music 170 Spring 2012 Bat Out of Hell Meat Loaf Bat Out of Hell, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night), Heaven Can Wait, All Revved Up With No Place To Go, Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad, Paradise By the Dashboard Light, For Crying Out Loud. The album I chose to do my report on is Bat out of Hell by Meat Loaf. This album is considered one of the greatest rock albums in history, being one of the five best-selling albums of all time, and I can see why. The genre featured on the recordings is mainly rock. However, there is some orchestra music and other random genres as well. I could hear incredible bass play, booming drums, fast piano play, and a wildly screeching guitar. On top of all those instruments was an amazing booming voice. All of the songs really stuck out to me because they were all so different, so I will recap a few of them. When the first song came on, I immediately recognized it because it is probably the most recognizable Meat Loaf hit, Bat out of Hell. The guitar solo at the beginning, about the first three minutes, was exciting and built up the song very well. Also, the piano accompanying made it sound great. The song is so complex, and just keeps building until the very end. It’s a great rock track. The second track, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night), was so unusual by the way it started, with talking and whispering instead of singing. However, it got further into it and was a very catchy......

...while at the same time penetrating new markets with new models,” (Crawford & Di Benedetto, 2011). After the Beetle captured attention, it was evident that reviving the Mini would fit BMW’s mission; thus it recreated the Mini. 2. Looking back at the Mini in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, I think that BMW skillfully recreated the Mini with tremendous improvements in the design, particularly the interior. In addition, BMW has attracted many customers to the Mini since it is a retro sport car. 3. BMW witnessed many modern automobiles resembling beloved retro cars. The launch of Z3 was very successful yet different from BMW’s prestigious sedans. After acquisitioning Rover Group Ltd., BMW had the right to recreate the Mini; thus the Mini was recreated to revive an old favorite as well as targeting a different segment. 4. I believe that BMW avoided the perception they were cheapening their brand by supporting their corporate identity in the Mini. Even though Mini looks nothing like other BMW cars, it still has the quality and excellence of BMW cars. The Mini’s controlling and feel reflects BMW’s high standards and thus it supports its identity. 5. I think that some arguments might occur during the Mini’s new product process, especially in the development phase. Considering the fact that the Mini has a British look but being manufactured by a German automobile company, I assume that designers and engineers will have their differences. Moreover, there might be......

Off the Wall Album Review

...Aaron Michelson Professor Natalie Graham AFAM 356 11 January 2015 Album Review Assignment: Off The Wall When reading the album review of Lil Wayne’s album “I Am Not A Human Being II” by zcamp, it is not entirely obvious if the reviewer liked or disliked the artist in general. He starts off praising Lil Wayne’s style and his so called “moth butterfly thing”. But then goes into a more sarcastic bashing of his new album. It is obvious that he greatly dislikes his new album that he is reviewing. The style of this review was very casual, which fits the style of the type of people who would buy his album. You can see that his review is casual when looking at the sarcastic tone of the review in general. You can also see that the style of his writing is casual by looking at how the reviewer mentions the more crude examples of Lil Wayne’s work. In order for zcamp to write his review, he had to have listened to the entire album he is reviewing and know of Lil Wayne’s other albums to compare. Since he compares the album he is reviewing to Lil Wayne’s previous works, he had to know what his other albums sound like. He also mentions a drink in his review that Lil Wayne made up called “sizzurp”. Zcamp talks about how Lil Wayne went to the hospital with violent seizures after consuming too much of his “sizzurp”. To know this information, he must follow the news of Lil Wayne. I do not follow or listen to Lil Wayne, and I did not know about his “sizzurp” or his hospitalization. Zcamp......

Grey Album

...In 2004, one of the most notorious albums was made, The Grey Album. It consisted of Jay-Z’s Black Album and The Beatle’s White Album. DJ Danger Mouse created this mash-up album without the permission of Jay-Z or The Beatles. The album included acapellas and instrumentals from both of the albums. As of result of this, recording company EMI filed a cease-and-desist letter to Danger Mouse as he started to distribute and sell the album. A fellow music group by the name of Negativland released a song with the name U2 on the front cover. Negativland sampled the song “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking for” and outtakes from the host of American Top 40, Casey Kasem. Negativland never received permission to use any of U2’s work. As soon as Negativland released the album for retail, recording company Island Records and Warner-Chappell Music filed a lawsuit against Negativland and their record company. The lawsuit ended with Negativland recalling all the copies of the single and having to pay over $70,000 in damages and legal costs. Artists should not be allowed to use each other’s work. According to the case study, Negativland claims “Our work is an authentic and original whole, being much more than the sum of its samples”. In other words, Negativland does acknowledge that they in fact did use U2’s work but it should be looked at as more than that. Negativland’s work is not original and is just refurbished pieces of some other artist’s work. It’s been said that true creativity......

...Beyonce released her fifth, self-titled album without any prior publicity. She released her album via iTunes without any prior promotion ( A significant and potentially very risky , released from how music was traditionally released. The Apple , Facebook and Instagram are her major methods of reaching the audience. Throughout 2013 she had performed at Obama’s Presidential Inauguration and the Super Bowl Halftime Show as well as an endorsement deal as the face of Pepsi and appeared in advertisements. She was also the subject of a HBO documentary. Beyonce thought of offering her new product in a totally different, innovative , timely fashion than she has followed previously and different to the competitors. When the grand launch happens it was release and offered exclusively on the iTunes store. With the collaboration of Sony Columbia Records physical manufacturing for CD’s began on the same day. The Parkwood's General Manager, Lee Anne Callahan- Longo had few concerns and queries in his mind before their unusual strategy of album launch. The main concerns are, fears of......
