Speak Your Mind (By Ras Isley)
Look how other people ah shine
We murmuring, we grumbling, we staying behind.
If we can’t talk, I’ll talk for you!
Tell me nuh man, I’m in the struggle too.

Speak your mind
You won’t speak your mind?
Speak your mind.

We unemployed, we want work
We want better pay
You afraid to lose your life sacrifice
Say it once, say it twice
If you’re not heard, say it thrice

Speak your mind
You won’t speak your mind?
Ah said speak you mind.

It’s your democratic right, use it
Tell government, tell opposition
Tell man, woman, friend and enemy
Tell management, tell mismanagement
Tell them, say how you feel
You need a better deal
You don’t want to steal.

Speak your mind
You won’t speak your mind?
Ah said speak your mind. You need a better life for your children
Cost of living is getting higher
Things ain’t changing, ain’t getting easier
The cry of the children getting louder

Speak your mind
You won’t speak your mind?
Speak you mind

Time to stand up and be brave
For your rights don’t let them tell you how to behave
It’s yourself and your future you got to save
Shout! Cry! Let your voice be heard!

They say half a loaf is better than none
These days half a loaf is not even enough
The voice of the people is the voice of Jah
One day Jah will answer your prayer
But you must speak your mind

You won’t speak your mind?
Speak your mind
The Rasta will speak his…...

Media Controls Your Mind

...look at it, the mass media occurs in a person’s life on a daily basis. Which has a severe effect on the choices you make and the morals you live by. One cannot trust everything they see on TV either. Most commercials you would see today are overly exaggerated just to persuade consumers into buying the product. For example, in the 1930’s America’s first “drug czar” Harry J. Anslinger, began one of the world’s greatest public relations campaigns just to demoralize marijuana by telling apparent lies to society and persuading them to believe it. Such as that marijuana is more harmful to the body than alcohol, and tobacco. 70 years later people still believe the lies even after decades of scientific proof. Seeing as how media can “control your mind” we as a whole need to be more aware of it on a daily basis. The mass media has a responsibility to use only truthful explanations as opposed to exaggeration when arguing against the legalization of marijuana. The campaigns that Anslinger participated in consisted of many movies, musicals, and advertisements all demoralizing the usage, and or the distribution of marijuana. The promotion of marijuana making you insane was his main theme throughout his claims. Every single one of his claims missed some very important facts that make them obviously false. Studies over the years has proved that marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol or tobacco, and it is not a “gateway drug” leading to the usage of other drugs. Harry tried to promote......

Television and Your Childs Mind

...Theo 104 | Television and Your Child’s Mind | Advertisement on Youths | | Latonya Jones | 11/25/2013 | Advertisements that are not suitable for youths can affect their minds because they can pick up bad habits from seeing something on television that they are too young to see. We are too familiar with the saying “TV Can Rot a Child’s Mind.” But as long as we as parents do our jobs as monitors of what our children are watching this wouldn’t have to be an issue. Before us as responsible parents decide to sit our children in front of a television set we should ask ourselves this very important question, which is how much t.v is too much t.v for our children? The reason why this question should be given some thought is because television can affect a child’s mind in a way that could be negative or positive. What we most definitely do not want is a negative affect which results in long lasting to damage to your child or children’s development. For the most part in the early stages of a child’s development they are primarily visually stimulated and will be learning pretty much everything from what they see. So to be aware of what and how much your child or children are taking in is a number one priority. Another thing that I would suggest, being a parent of two is setting time limits like an hour or two a day of television daily. Nowadays there are so many different kinds of t.v programs for your children to watch that are suitable for them, for example “My......

Mind Your Language

...Essay - Chachau Bant: Mind Your Language Our language is a very big part of us, whether you are Spanish, Danish or English you can be proud of your languages. Every language have a lot of heritage, your parents taught it to you, like it was taught to them by their parents. But not everyone can feel proud, or at least can be sure, that they will get the chance to teach their language on to their children. This is one of the main themes in Tom Law’s article “Chachau Bant: Mind Your Language” from the sabotage times from 2013. In his article Law writes about how the English have completely smothered the Welsh language. In his article, Tom Law starts his article by telling the reader, the English speaker, that they do not understand the following problem: “it’s hard to give a toss about language when you’re an English speaker” (p. 1, ll. 1-2), but afterwards he tries to explains it, but with a little twist. Law sets up a scenario for the English speakers, where he starts out by letting the German take control of Europe and thereby making German the main language, this causes English to be inconvenient and therefore going extinct. This is Law’s way of explaining how English made the Welsh language a thing of the past. Law therefore uses pathos to make the English people feel what Welsh people have gone through. He gives them a scenario where they are the victims. Law also tells about how the school children got bullied and punished for speaking Welsh in the school,......

The author aims to prove that the language of a country is what helps to develop and maintain the countries culture, without the language the culture will not remain the same. In addition to that Law manages to discus the reasons behind the eradication of the Welsh language. This essay aims to analyse the reasons behind the use of history in the article through an understanding of the way in which Law draws in his audience through the tone and style used in the article. The topic that Tom Law covers in this article is of most interest to Welsh people, who still haven’t given in to the storm of the English implementation in Wales. He explains how English has become such a dominant language, to be exact the third most common language in the world, and how English speakers do not have to worry about losing their language “It’s hard to give a toss about language when you’re an English speaker. Because losing your language is not something you’ll ever have to worry about; thanks to the British Empire.” Compared to welsh that has slowly been drifting away for 150 years. When considering the fact that the reason behind the eradication of Welsh from the...

Renewing Your Mind

...Kimesha Washington Erin Price Intro to Online Education 7 March 2015 The biblical foundations relate to scripture and the importance of “renewing our minds” in many different ways. Higher education fits that calling because by renewing your mind you start off fresh. Each time a semester begins or another class starts your ability to stay focused, organized, and knowledgeable depends on it. The biblical foundations are a stepping stone for students. By renewing our minds we are able to act as God has instructed us to. A mind that hasn’t been renewed results in wicked actions while one with a “renewed mind” acts in a Godly way. (Roman 12:2) “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” In so little words the scripture does not want us to be a follower in this world but instead act as leader by renewing our minds. By doing so it is God’s will that we act accordingly. Renewing our minds creates a new journey and direction when you may have been going down the wrong one. (Proverbs 1:7) “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instructions.” Act as God has instructed us to do so because those who do not obey his word look down on wisdom and instructions and therefore do not follow his word. (Proverbs 19:27) “Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of......

Open Your Heart and Mind to a New Community

...College is seen as a place for individuals to express themselves and figure out whom he/she is this becomes more challenging for students of the GLBT community. While the acceptance of GLBT individuals in society has increased, the issues they face are continuously increasing as well; especially on college campuses where students go expecting to find a home away from home. As a developing professional, I believe that it is influential for institutions to acknowledge the issues of this matter that exist among college students and develop ways to help all students. The foundation for such an event to take place is through education and communication. After plenty of research and good observations, it would be nice if there was an Open Your Heart & Mind to a New Community program to help students, faculty, and staff learn more about the GLBT community as well. This program would be designed to not only educate the members of the institution about issues associated with GLBT students, but allow for structured environments where GLBT and straight members of the institution can come together to express themselves in hopes of forming an alliance. History of Gay Pride Gay Rights Movement was embedded in the so-called Stonewall riots. This was the first major attempt of gays to coordinate, themselves and to resist discrimination. In the summer of 1969, policemen in New York started to bombard unlicensed bars, resulting in closings of five gay bars with minor street......

Battle for Your Mind

...Battle For Your Mind (3 of 8) Series: The Battle Is The Lord's Dr. Stan Coffey II Corinthians 10:3-5 I. SATAN'S DESIRE II. SATAN'S DEVICES III. SATAN'S DOORS IV. SATAN'S DEFEAT It is good to see you. If you have a copy of the word of God, I want you to take God's word and turn to Second Corinthians Chapter 10 and tonight we want to continue to think about the battle is the Lord's. We are thinking about spiritual warfare. I don't know about you but I am in a battle. Amen? I suspect you are too if you are a believer. Somebody said if you hadn't met the devil, you are probably going the same direction he is. Amen? So if you are going toward God, you are going to have the devil try to stand between you and God and not the devil literally but demonic influence, demons. We studied last seek how to overcome the devil and we spoke about that and we spoke about how Jesus had vanquished the devil. The devil has been vanquished but the devil has not been banished. That is, the Bible says that God now has given us authority over him and power over him but he is not yet in the lake of fire. There is no need for any believer to be defeated by Satan because the Bible says we have been given the victory, the victory has been won and we don't fight for victory, we fight from victory. But nevertheless, we are still in a battle. Now look at Second Corinthians 10 and verse 3, "FOR THOUGH WE WALK IN THE FLESH, WE DO NOT WAR AFTER THE FLESH. (FOR THE WEAPONS OF OUR......

Twenty Years Cannot Handicap Your Mind for Your Future

...Twenty years cannot handicap your mind for your future English 219 Jan. 28, 2015 It was time. It was overdue. She tossed the empty water bottle into the trash and opens the front door to leave her home, in the quiet neighborhood. As Laney walked into a clean updated looking office, with her scarf around her neck, she didn't want to be too late for the job interview. After all, these years, a real job interview first time in a long time. She handed the security guard an appointment card and went into the elevator, she exhaled noisily. "I'm never doing this again, I can’t believe I’m doing it now." she said, closing her blue colored eyes for a moment. Now on the second floor, she opened the glass door to Suite 2 and glanced at the welcome sign of the Medical Facility. The receptionist looked up from her desk with a smile and asked Laney to hand over her resume. Once she took Laney’s resume the receptionist let her know that it would be a few moments until Rachel, the head of HR, finished with a client and invited her to sit in the lobby to wait. With her sitting straight in a modern mustard chair by the door, Laney folded her hands on top of her legs to wait and couldn’t help but ponder her past. It was May of last year, three months after she had turned 45 and over 20 years since she had held any kind of a job. Laney never intended to become a stay-at-home mother for this long. "I loved the whole thing,"......

Anyone Can Speak English. Now It Is Your Turn!

... Anyone can speak English. Now it is your turn! To begin with, language is a tool of communication to transfer information. It has obviously distinguished mankind from the rest of the animal world (Barber, Beal, and Shaw: 2012). Learning a language is a matter of language acquisition. When we learn a language, it means we make an attempt to acquire a language. That is why you need to know how humans acquire languages.   Language can be acquired by two ways, viz. spontaneous learning and guided learning (Kleine:1986). Since English is not our mother tongue, we need to take a great deal of effort to master it. Therefore English is acquired by guided learning for native Indonesians. English is a lingua franca in a lot of countries which means English has become a global language nowadays. What is a global language? Crystal (2012:3) describes, that a language achieves a genuinely global status when it develops a special role that is recognized in every country. Lingua franca can be described as a language for day-to-day public communication in a country  whose official language is not English. ‘Sorry’, ‘thank you’, ‘bye’, etc. are commonly used everyday almost all over the world. It is an evident reality that through entertainment a language can influence local culture. Therefore you can also easily find quite a few English loanwords in our official language. Wherever you go, even in the countryside, you can easily find English signs and advertisements. Whenever you enter a......

Mind Your Language Essay

...Cachau Bant: Mind Your Language Back in the days when the British Empire ruled, the English language spread all across the world forcing a lot of people to take upon English if they wanted better in life. Because of English being one of the most dominant languages in the world, a lot of native languages were lost a long the way - one of those languages being Welsh. Why and how this happened to particular Welsh is what Tom Law discusses in his article Cachau Bant: Mind Your Language from 2013. In this article Tom Law accuses the British Empire for being the cause of the people living in Wales and speaking Welsh dropping drastically during the last couple of 100 years. The cause of this being that England took over the Welsh school system and made teaching English a first priority and Welsh was being taught like German or French is taught in schools nowadays. "[Welsh] was treated the same as any other foreign language – like French or German. It gave you tourist Welsh – enough to ask directions to the nearest zoo in Colwyn Bay – and not much else.” Frustrated with how people today react when hearing about the Welsh losing their native language, Law makes up a fictional scenario where everybody speaks German instead of English. The people who still speak English are considered as being dumb or poor, and with no job prospects if you cannot speak German. Law does admit that this is a rather drastic example, “Now this all sounds absolutely nuts (…) But this is what has happened......

How to Lose Weight Without Losing Your Mind

...How to lose weight without losing your mind In today’s society, we are bombarded with weight loss products and programs. Everywhere you look, it’s low-fat this and reduced calories that. It seems every other commercial is advertising some miracle diet pill or program. According to John Phillip, “Every day fitness clubs are opening up on every corner and new weight loss books are being published at lightning speed”(92). Even with all this going on around us we are still not losing any weight at all. We are doing this and it is driving our friends, family and ourselves insane. We are causing our minds to explode and bodies with all the diets and pills. So if these things are not working how do we lose the weight and keep it off?, by light exercising, alternative snacking, and by letting your body receive sleep. I have taken the pills, tried the diets, even cabbage soup, and spent an enormous amount of money on programs to help me. Finally one day after stepping on the scales and seeing that after a week of dieting I had not lost one pound, I started thinking about metabolism. I knew metabolism had to do with the rate in which your body uses up or “burns calories”( Stanley). So I learned that if you have a higher metabolism, you burn calories faster than consume them, making you lose weight. Here are just a few simple steps to consider as you battle with your metabolism. Light Exercises I know exercise is most definitely not a word that most dieters wants to even......

Training Your Creative Mind

...How to Train Your Creative Mind As Louis Pasteur once famously said, “Chance favors only the prepared mind.” To be an innovative entrepreneur, you want to foster creativity in your daily life so that your mind is ready when opportunity arises. “Creative ideas often come from unusual combinations,” explains Steven Smith, professor of cognitive psychology at Texas A&M University. “The best solution is not going to be the thing everyone thinks of. It’s going to be something unusual.” These unusual combinations, called “remote associations,” are related ideas that may seem unrelated at first glance. They are the essence of creative thinking. To cultivate creativity, you want to increase your chances of stumbling on an unexpected link. Here are four strategies you can use in your everyday life that will train your mind to be more creative in business: 1. Shake up your routine. To expand your creative horizons, surround yourself with a broad range of perspectives and experiences. A diverse workplace is helpful, but it isn’t enough. Outside work, seek variety in what you eat, where you hang out, the types of art you look at, the places you travel, or the books you read. “Diversity introduces all kinds of new stimuli,” Smith says. “It opens you up to a number of new possibilities.” You are more likely to find an unusual solution when you have more options at your fingertips. 2. Cast a wide net for feedback. We often discuss important ideas with the same......
