...Strategic Leadership and Change Initiative The study of leadership is a complex and often controversial subject. Essentially every angle of leadership has been studied and thus exists many theories and perspectives on this widely reviewed topic. The oldest and perhaps most widely studied viewpoint on leadership is from a leader-centric model, that is, leadership is a function only of the leader, his traits, personality, and competencies. With nearly a century of research to support this leader-centered view of leadership, it is foundational to the understanding of leadership. More recent studies of leadership however, have expanded our understanding to include leadership as a dynamic, fluid process involving leaders, followers, relationships, and situational contexts. Jon L. Pierce and John W. Newstrom suggest that underlying the various perspectives on leadership exists a commonly agreed upon idea: “[leadership] is a sociological phenomenon involving the intentional exercise of influence by one person over one or more other individuals, in an effort to guide activities toward the attainment of some mutual goal, a goal that requires interdependent action among members of the group” (Pierce & Newstrom, 2008). Some students choose HRM course because they think that it is easy and a fast way to graduate because some of the mindset of the students are just to graduate and get a job like being a waiter or bartender, without thinking that the knowledge that they learned wasn’t put into good use. For every incoming college student, choosing the best course can be a difficult decision and thinking about the future career is yet another difficult task to reflect on. ...The College Student’s Perception of Healthful Eating Abstract Current research suggests college students have fluctuating eating patterns and are confused about what constitutes a healthful diet. The purpose of this study was to identify the sources by which college students receive nutritional information and what constitutes the best dietary plan for maintaining a healthful lifestyle. The survey instrument used in this study measured the perceptions of college students about their practices in healthful eating and the sources they consulted to receive healthful eating information. It aligned with research that suggests college students choose to consult peers and the Internet for nutritional information over the consultation of a professional. The survey also suggested that college students understand fast food to be contradictory to a healthful lifestyle and choose to minimize their carbohydrate intake but are confused about the best dietary plan to maintain a healthful lifestyle.
