Windover Bog
It is safe to say that Windover Bog is the most exceptional archaeological site ever excavated. It provided enormous amounts of information about the early people in ancient Florida. The knowledge gained from Windover Bog exceeded the expectations of scientists and anthropologist. Over ten thousand bones and hundreds of artifacts were found at the site. From the artifacts left behind at Windover, scientist and anthropologist were able to delve into how these early people thought and behaved.
Anthropologists were impressed to find that the people of Windover were able to weave fabrics. The site was over seven thousand years old and these people were alive six thousand years before the birth of Christ. It is remarkable to believe that such ancient people were capable of executing weaves who lived so long ago. There were over eighty six pieces of fabric were found and had many uses. Much of the weave was used as clothing, some was used for blankets and bags, and some was even used as a rain jackets.
Since the fabric was used as rain jackets for the people of Windover, this indicates that the weather of ancient Florida must have been similar to the weather of Florida today. Climate of a region can have its benefits and its disadvantages. Large amounts of rain within a region caused the people of Windover to adapt to the given settings. They created a weave for a rain jacket that would protect them from the large amount of rainfall.
When there is a lot of rain in a region it is accompanied by a large bug population. Florida has a large population of flies, cockroaches, and mosquitos. This is due to the high humidity, geographical location, the high temperatures, and the large amounts of rainfall. The rain jackets did not only protect the people of Windover from the weather but also the enormous bug population in the region.
From observing the body remains of the people there were noticeable clues of diseases and healed wounds. Majority of the wounds were prevalent amongst the children and were probably due to severe illnesses. The children in this culture had fragile immune systems because most of the disease and wounds were present in the archaeological remains of their bodies. The type of environment the Windover people lived in allows for diseases to spread very rapidly. There are numerous amounts of fungus and bacteria in areas such as Florida. Wet climates, hot temperatures, and high humidity create the perfect environment for illness to exist. Children have the weakest immune systems so living in an environment such as this is not an advantage for young aged individuals.
Anthropologist and scientists noticed that children contained a larger number of graved valuables than the adults. This situation occurs due to the fact that children did not live very long in the Windover culture because of the environment. Children were considered valuable due to their low life spans. It was uncommon for children to make it past a certain age so they were considered valuable within the Windover culture. Today, in the American culture children are given high value. This could be due to the same fact that children are weak and innocent beings. They must be attended to constantly because of their endless needs and minimal knowledge. How are humans able to attend to children if they require so much time and energy to care for? Why do mothers go through the pain of carrying around a baby in their stomachs for nine months? The answer is love. Humans have a predisposition to express love for their offspring. If humans did not have this inclination than the human species would not be able to persist. The adults of Windover Bog took children of high importance due to this reason.
Windover Bog is a remarkable excavation site that allowed anthropologists and scientists to delve into the culture of an ancient people. The people of Windover Bog contained artifacts that astounded anthropologists and scientists because these people were over seven thousand years old. The type of society the people of Windover lived is considered advanced in all standards. Anthropologists were able to understand how the people of Windover thought and behaved from the artifacts that were left behind.

Windover Bog

...Theresa Cushion Professor Miner 25 March 2012 Windover Pond Discovered by accident in 1982 by a backhoe operator during construction for a housing development, Windover Pond in Florida is one of the world’s greatest archaeological finds (The Brevard Museum). Located near Titusville in Brevard County, Windover Pond is an ancient, shallow bog pond that was a burial ground for more than 200 Native Americans who lived in the area about 8,000 years ago. (The Brevard Museum). Radiocarbon dating tests indicated the oldest skeletons were buried 8,100 years ago, and the youngest was placed in the ground 6,900 years ago, 3,000 to 4,000 years before the Egyptian pyramids (Suriano, Robert). Windover dates an advanced culture in North America that precedes any previously discovered anywhere else in the world (Suriano, Robert) and the burial site is a planned community cemetery (Nielson, Paula J.). Most significant of the discoveries at Windover Pond are the cloth fragments, the oldest cloth ever found in the Western hemisphere (Suriano, Robert). The cloth was made from the leaves of sabal palm, and the pieces reveal five different methods of fabric making, although no evidence of a loom was found (Suriano, Robert). Some of the fabrics are woven as tightly as a cotton T-shirt, and others are made more loosely twined into blankets, capes, and toga-like garments (Suriano, Robert). A total of ninety-one brains have been recovered from the site, the first time that intact human......

Let us take a look at the scenarios that you need to understand to compose a well developed essay. For some students, it may be limiting to have a word factor quota in writing an article. ...An essay is usually a short piece of writing. It is often written from an author's personal point of view. Essays can be literary criticism, political manifestos, learned arguments, observations of daily life, recollections, and reflections of the author. The definition of an essay is vague, overlapping with those of an article and a short story. Almost all modern essays are written in prose, but works in verse have been dubbed essays (e.g. Alexander Pope's An Essay on Criticism and An Essay on Man). While brevity usually defines an essay, voluminous works like John Locke's An Essay Concerning Human Understanding and Thomas Malthus's An Essay on the Principle of Population provide counterexamples. It is very difficult to define the genre into which essays fall. Aldous Huxley, a leading essayist, gives guidance on the subject: Like the novel, the essay is a literary Abstract This article will examine the reasons why it is important both linguistically and psychologically to build a vocabulary quickly when learning a foreign language. The article asserts that very little can be achieved or learned in a foreign language with a small vocabulary and that by building a sizable vocabulary quite quickly one can soon be able to function adequately. Bog Bodies

...Bog bodies, quite literally, have the world on their shoulders for hundreds to thousands of years. Bog bodies are found buried in peat and many internal organs, skin and facial features are still intact due to the incredible conditions of the bog, which include: highly acidic water, low temperature and little oxygen. There are many theories concerning reasons for these bodies in the bog, and much evidence to support them. Some of the ancient remains have been religiously/politically sacrificed, through which has been discovered by various archaeological investigations and also, the amazing environment and amount of preservation of the bogs themselves. When Cashel man was first discovered it was difficult for the archaeologists to be tell that he was human. The leading researcher Carol Smith said that it was difficult at first to be able to distinguish the body from the peat it was buried in, but when the body was sprayed with ionised water, the body began to take on human qualities. Cashel man was found in a bog near Cashel in Ireland (hence his name) but was damaged due to a milling machine, however the body was extremely well preserved. Radiocarbon suggests that he is the oldest bog body with intact skin in the world. Post-mortem, Cashel man had a broken arm, caused by a sharp object and had his back broken into two places. He also had a deep cut on his back, perhaps by the same sharp object that was used to break his arm. Cashel man encountered a horrific death,......

Reflective Essay

...Joshua Mage Eng-111 Reflective Essay Perspectives As Changing as the Tides It’s amazing how our perspective changes as we grow. I grew up a southern boy. As a matter of fact, my childhood home was about six blocks from the Gulf of Mexico, making my childhood about as southern as one could ever hope to have. I have fond memories of aquamarine waters. My childhood friends and I would hop on our bike with all the fishing gear we could muster up packed in a red ryder wagon attached securely to the back of our bikes with a little twine. The harbor master knew to look out for us, and knew which phone numbers to call, if we decided to start act foolishly. I spent a countless amount of time on that beach fishing, floundering, crabbing, and swimming in these waters. I relocated to the mountains when I was just hitting my teenage years. My adolescence was filled with all the perils, life lessons, and memories that have given that stage of life such a wonderful stigma. At the age of twenty, I married the girl next door (literally) and began my adult life. Shortly after getting married, we decided to take a road trip. We departed on a month and a half trip of the southern U.S. with the first stop being that of my home town. We arrived in the night, tired and road-worn from the nice twelve hour day on the country’s interstates. With sleep the only thing on our minds, we settled in at my family’s home. As I laid down, I was struck with excitement for what the next morning would......
